Thinking about getting another dog

Hi all
I've been thinking about getting a bitch in the new year. Blue is hard work at the mo and wants constant attension. I was thinking about getting an older rescue bitch (4 Years old or above). Will need to be well balanced. Im hoping it may help in sorting Blue out and will give him some company. He hates been on his own.
Seen a few already online. I would love a puppy from the start but I think Blue needs an elder figure to learn from and animals teach other animals in hours what humans can take years to teach.
What do you all think?
Any tips or things to look out for?

Have you been in touch with some of the rescue sites? Let them know you're interested, what you're looking for & why. If you can get all the formalities out the way beforehand it'll smooth things over a bit when the time comes.

I'd look for a well-balanced bitch, one that is calm but cheerful (difficult in a kennel, I know, but one'll syand out, you'll see). She'll have to be strong physically & quite bold cause she'll have a lot to put up with at first!

I think it's a great idea, & I'm sure you'll give a rescue girl a fantastic home.

Yeah I've seen a couple on dogs trust and at the RSPCA.

Was gonna have a look at a few and try and get Blue to meet them on neutral ground before deciding. Gonna let Blue make the final decision. Was hoping to go off who he connects with.
Do rescue centres do this sort of arrangement?

I think most of them do - you'd be better asking blaze as she's got 1st hand experience of rescue kennels.

They usually do blue they like to make sure if u have got another dog for u to take them down to meet to make sure they get on ok

Do you wanna bring Kaiser along with us?
As it will have to be someone who gets on with him also. I mean he will be mine one day

You will all have to have joint custody of kaiser im sure kaiser will be happy to be shared by all off u he has two homes already mine and my fellas he loves it

I think its a great idea many lovely bitches are in rescue at that age who will love a forever home. Go for it, good on you bluestaff, im sure the rescue will help you in the meeting stages good luck

blue going to end up with three dogs you wont be able to split the sisters up lol

I showed the mrs and she went no straight away.....I was like why. she said cos im a bloody softy and will come back with both of them

Some lucky girl is going to get a new and loving home. What a lovely start to the New Year for her. Good on you!

RSPCA have phoned me back and both dogs Jessie & Josie have viewings this Sunday, so I have to phone back next week to see if they are still available.

Good on you blue! I think like u said an older sensible bitch who is pretty easy going but WILL but blue in his place if need be would be perfect!! Im soooo excited for you and both jessie and josie look lovely....i do love a red head lol! But even if those two dont work out there will 100% be a perfect dog out there! Most rescue's wont let u adopt a new dog without bringing your own dog to the centre to be assesed with the new dog.....but.....rspca probably have one of the worst reputations around at the moment for not putting the dogs first sooooo i dunno how they do things!
I would say though your absolutley right to let blue have the final say.....theres no point in pushing a bitch onto him just coz u like her, there are soooo many out there blue can have his pick!
