tail
hey guys,
iggy has a problem i think, we went to pick him up this afternoon at my inlaws' house and we noticed that his tail is in a weird shape and it's not completely wagging, and he is not as hyper as he used to be.
i dont think it is broken because when we touch it he doesn't cry. normally his tail looks like a old fashoned pump but now it looks more like a cow's tail, realy curved on the base.
the inlaws told me he's been playing with the neigbour's dog so maybe he got it from there.
does it need immediate attention because it's late and all the vets are closed. or can it wait a few days ?

Re: tail
It could be cold tail (aka dead tail, limber tail).
Does this look like it...

Believe it or not, many vets have never heard of it. Unless they have a lot of experience actually working gundogs they may never have come across it!
I'd save your money & wait for a few days. If he's walking ok, then it isn't a spinal problem, so it's either a bruised tail or Limber/cold tail. Either way, it'll clear up on its own with no need whatsoever for anti inflamatories etc, which is almost certainly what your vet will prescribe. He might even sugest an x-ray!
Try keeping him out of draughts, restrict his exercise a bit, put a warm compress on the base of his tail (gently) for a couple of minutes two or three times a day and just wait.

Cold tail is a new one to me too; we learn something new everyday.
Do let us know how Iggy gets on, Marine - good luck

Re: tail
Glad Iggys tail is back to normal, my SIL Beagle had this once after she had bathed her after a walk, the vet did say it was Limber/cold tail and she was back to normal in a couple of days
