Re: Coconut oil
It is good for their coats, skin and digestion. It also helps to treat infections (like an antibiotic) and works on yeast infections. As Sheba has all of these, I want to feed it as often as I can but I only have the general guide of one tablespoon per 15kg (approx) .. no idea if that is okay daily or not

Re: Coconut oil
I give a teaspoon almost every day. I've also started rubbing it through their coats as the extreme heat here has dried them out. Vinny gets a bit of exema in the heat and I'm rubbing it on his sore spots- really soothing.
I took a teaspoon full to put in my bath the other day and Vin nearly climbed in with me to get his fix

Re: Coconut oil
I give a teaspoon daily but you have to be careful to begin as it can make them a little lose

Re: Coconut oil
Thanks Lisa and Hayley.
Choc has been having it a while but only once or twice a week ... will move toward daily for both of them
Lisa - do you put Vin out after you rub his coat, or do you not find it to be very oily?

Re: Coconut oil
To be honest, I just rub it in really well, or do it at a time I know they're going to be running around and not sitting on anything for a bit They like the rubbing in - kind of a massage/grooming/bonding session. I see Roxy has dry elbows so will step up her massages nextKell wrote:

I also give them a whole coconut every now and then to play with/eat. The soft coats the next day are incredible! As Hayley says, if they're not used to it it will upset the tum at first, but it's so good for so many things, isn't it

Re: Coconut oil
Sorry Lisa, I thought you said you just put it on Vin ... didn't mean to leave out Roxy
It is great stuff ... I unfortunately happen to be quite allergic to it, so have to be a bit cautious that it doesnt end up all over the place (which is a bit frustrating!). Now I know it 'soaks' in reasonably well, I will try the coat rub massage as you have suggested though

Re: Coconut oil
Nico loves. It, I use it on his coat but haven't tried letting him eat any although I use it as a moisturiser ( great for our skin and hair too) and he licks it off my feet and legs!
