Doubts about whether my puppy is a staffy !

hi wondered if anyone can help me, have just bought a 8 week old puppy that I was assured was a staffy but am starting to have doubts due to her blue eyes and light coloured nose .

Have you any pics? Is she KC registered?

No she isn't kc registered and can't figure out how to post a picture !

I fixed the link for you if you copy the IMG code your picture shows. She's very beautiful what colour were her parents.

Well, that colour doesn't occur naturally in Staffords, so I would hazzard a guess that at some point another breed has been introduced. What colour were her parents - did you see both of them or just the mum?

Thank you very much ...I only saw her mum who was a brindle colour , she came from a friend who is a breeder but of English bulldogs and apparently the woman who had the puppies was clueless and they were not well looked after at all hence why my friend took over their care .....I guess I will never know for sure but the dudley nose and blue eyes do leave me a little dubious to her pedigree

The nose wouldn't worry me - lack of pigment in a stafford will often result in a brown nose. The eyes would definitely make me question whether she's from two staffords, though. Even white staffs tend to have brown eyes, even if they're light brown.

But champagne (which is probably what the colour would be called) isn't a colour that's in the stafford lineage. I'm actually quite surprised that thE mum was brindle, in fact.

I take it her hearing & sight are both good?

Hearing and sight are both perfect ,and she's a healthy little girl in every way , eats well , sleeps well ....there was a litter of 5.... 3 boys who were brindle , her sister was pure white was a patch the same colour as lexi over one eye and then lexi who has a tiny white patch on chest , but otherwise is that colour all over.any ideas to what she may be crossed with ?

At a guess, I'd say a pale Labrador retriever?

It looks to me that she may have been a result of a dudley retriever cross.



That's a dudley colouring, but it can come in lighter.

She's beautiful Donna! It'll be a lot easier to tell the cross when older but could deffo be a lab mix as mentioned above my friend from work has a greyhound, as a puppy she looked exactly like your pup, but to see her now you'd never ever guess she was the same dog!

Lexi is absolutely adorable and as pretty as anything I ever saw. If she were mine (oh how I wish  ) I'd never let her go either, she is unique  

Thanks again all she has a little habit of biting ..hands,feet etc and even slightly snappy at the face when getting a cuddle so any tips on stopping that would be gratefully appreciated

Hi have just switched Lexi's food from pedigree puppy to James well be loved lamb and rice kibble which she seems to love..just wondered if anyone knew at 9 weeks exactly how much I should be giving her a day , split over her 4 meals .

Just go by the recommendations on the bag, and keep an eye on her general appearance. If you think she looks a bit on the thin side, increase the food a little and if you think she's a bit porky, cut down a little. 

Reccomdations on the bag say about 240g a day which I though was a bit much problem is she eats every bite and don't want to over feed

Well, the guide is just that, a guide. Nothing's set in stone as they're all different & they all grow at different rates.

Start off with the 240, split over 4 meals and see how she goes. It's easy at her age to cut back a little if necessary if you think she's putting on fat instead of just growing well.

I bought a pup and was assured she was a staffy too they look like staffy pups when there that small you can only hazard a guess as to what they are when there older in my opinion its when they start taking shape when there a few months old id have a crack at guessing the breed or breeds she may be never the less beautiful pup and also my ivy had blue eyes at first but they changed to a green colour then and now they're an amber colour so maybe your pup will do the same
