Update on Eating Bones Please Read
My lovely boy has been in hospital for 2 days now, he is on a drip, has a catheter, is being given morphine pain killer and immodium. They are taking stool samples to grow a culture which will take 2 or 3 more days so they can then give him the right antibiotic. His diarreah has now lasted 6 days even though he has been on nil by mouth for a couple of days and at one point he couldn't even jump on the sofa or walk. Its breaking my heart and all because I gave him a bone from the butcher. Never ever again. Please learn by my mistake, I would hate to see another dog go through what mine has. I am devastated.

Re: Update on Eating Bones Please Read
To be honest, I think you have been so very unlucky. I would say that the bone was probably an old one which was tainted with either salmonella or campylobacter (I think that's how it's spelt). It may even be totally unrelated to the bone - Giardia, for example, which is what laid my boy low with exactly the same symptoms when he was about 10 months old.
The bone itself would not have caused the symptoms you have described - bacteria certainly can.
I hope he's feelong so much better really soon.

Awwwww, poor boy.
Was it bacteria which made him sick or did he chew and get a peice of bone stuck and lodged somewhere to cause the problem???
The lady who runs the Puppy Pre-school which I took Roxy to also said that she would never give her dogs a bone.
Hope he's up and about soon

Oh dear, hope he pulls through soon and I agree this has been a very unlucky thing to happen and is rare! Sorry if you've posted before but was the bone frozen before you fed it to him? This kills bacteria as cooking would!
