Staffy pup eating raw meaty bones.
Hi, I have a 5 month old staffy and has been on raw since 10 weeks old, very fit, happy and healthy although when we give her RMB necks, wings, etc she just sticks them in her mouth and chews on them.
She hasn't got the idea of using her feet to hold the meat whilst she eats it and we get worried about her going to swallow the bones and choke.
Is this normal? She has no problems holding her rawhide bones.
We sometimes joke she doesn't want to get her paws dirty lol

Re: Staffy pup eating raw meaty bones.
I think the little bones are often eaten this way - if my guys get smaller bones they will just crunch them in their mouths like that. If you're worried about small bones, maybe go onto something bigger. Lamb and veal are my favourites (well, not mine for me but mine for my dogs!), and you should be able to get smallish lamb bones. I would think that's fine at 5 months.

Thanks for the welcome and the info.
We where just concerned about the way she eats.
Maybe the bigger bones like you say will be best.
Thanks

Re: Staffy pup eating raw meaty bones.
see if you can get hold of some lamb spines - they're bigger but the bone is quite soft & easy to crunch so they're more inclined to hold it still while they eat.
please be careful with rawhide - 99% of them are full of chemicals/bleaching agents from their manufacture; plus, they swell in the stomach so any larger pieces swallowed could swell & cause a blockage.
