Eating Bones
I have always given my boy marrow bones, yesterday I went to a different butcher and asked for a bone for the dog and he gave me a couple (not marrowbones). I chose what I thought was the best one and gave it to Harry when I got home and kept my eye on him while he was chewing a bit of the meat off it. Then I answered a phone call and
when I got back the bone had all but dissapeared and only about 2" of it was left. I took it off him but have been worried sick ever since I never expected the bone to break up! Then this morning although Harry is bright as a button, he has the runs. I have been told to just keep an eye on him but unless he starts being sick I shouldn't worry too much. Just hope what he has swallowed hasn't done him any damage. Can anyone help put my mind at rest please because I am imagining all sorts of things and feeling so very guilty?

Re: Eating Bones
I don't give Dempsey marrow bones at all for 2 reasons,
1. He gets the softer bones (necks/ribs/spines) so that he can finish them off quickly & eat them all.
2. The marrow is very rich and can give him an upset stomach!
Was the bone raw or cooked?

I really haven't a clue on bones, Caryll is the expert on that, but as long as he is happy in himself then please don't worry, its upset his tummy but thats obviously passing through now. Sounds like that type of bone didn't agree with him!

Re: Eating Bones
sound like they may have been pork bones which memphis can eat quickly and they give him the trot so he dont get them now and also they may have been fresh meat bones not previously frozen which can also give the squirts

Re: Eating Bones
Thanks for the replies. It was a raw bone (never been frozen) from the butcher. He seems ok this afternoon and just as bright as usual. Have learned my lesson, I won't be doing that again!
