Training tips
I could do with some advice on training tips. Rocky is 13 weeks and we have had him 3 weeks. He hasnt had much training but we do basic things with him which he is doing well at.
What basic training should he be taught and tips/links would be good.
Thanks

Re: Training tips
Stay , sit and watch me are the most important ones in my opinion but anything he will learn is good , don't overwork him on the training just keep him on his toes

Re: Training tips
I must say bob we could probably do with some pics just to see how cute he's become I agree with all above, learn the basics and with time, patience and persistence he'll get there.

Re: Training tips
First thing I taught Bacchus, and the most important IMO, is to come when called. I would randomly call him at any time while running backwards and making a game of it followed by a treat. Remember it must always be a pleasure to come to you. Never ever call your dog for punishment. Progress to sit, stay, down, watch me etc but always make it fun. If you feel yourself getting frustrated or you sense he is getting bored give him a command he will reliably carry out then stop but never finish on a refusal.

Re: Training tips
All above. We also showed him that he doesn't have to be food possesive or anything-possesive. Leave command is very important. We also thought him to come to our left side when he's called. Good luck with the training - keep it fun.

Re: Training tips
Can't add to the advice above ... sit, stay, wait, come, leave and watch were all high on our list of firsts.
Introduce what you want to teach slowly and keep practicing it consistently until it sticks - there'll be plenty of time to learn all the others

Re: Training tips
I don't give Harley anything unless he does something for me, he comes back, good belly rub, wants his dinner? Has to sit and patiently wait till I say ok. Some may think a bit harsh but the 'nothing for free' works wonders and he'll be more eager to do what you want!
