some tips please
hey everyone.
theres a couple probs that have been really persistant and hard to fix so i wondered if anyone could help
BARKING: all the time now she barks, if someone walks past her and doesnt speak to her, in the house she barks and whines for a treat all the time. she also gets barky with me and goes for me mouthing and everything. she gets majorly excited and jumps on every guest we have and if we put her to bed for time out she screams and digs her crate. my mums concerned we are going to get complaints. we tried ignoring it, telling her no and treating when shes quiet, we tried a bark collar tht made a high pitched noise......nothing has worked.
DESTRUCTIVENESS: she rips everything updespite the fact she has loads of toys! she started on the flooring where she found a tiny gap. she chewed a bit of wall.
GENERAL HYPERACTIVENESS: she hates going walks because of the weather and whines all the time about walks. i take her 2 decent walks a day but have to keep her on lead as she has gotten soooo badly behaved she will jump on everyone even i theres 6 dogs to play with. we stopped going to training as the trainer kept askig us to stand in the hall til she calmed but she never would. she is acting crazy and iv done everything i can think of but nothing seems to do it with her. i know shes not even a year yet but its like living with the tazmanian devil.

Re: some tips please
Could be attention seeking or lack of stimulation. How old is she now ? What are you feeding her ?
Do you have a long training for her so she can have a bit of a run about while you still have her under control ?
Maybe try playing some hide and seek games with her to keep her mind occupied. Just hide tiny treats around the home so she has to sniff them out, old egg boxs are great for hiding small treats in. We have some old tennis balls which hubby has cut a small hole in to hide a treat inside then hide these around the home.
A good quality food can make a lot of difference to a dogs behaviour too. http://staffy-bull-terrier.com/dry_food

Re: some tips please
thanks for reply.
she has been really fussy with food, she has had royal canin, then jwb and burns but with dry shes not bothered, just now shes gettin burgess sensitive salmon with some nature diet through it.
yeah she has a flexi and a recall line but she gets so hyper she jumps on me and bites my shoes. feels like its not gettin any better. shes now 11 months in a few weeks

Re: some tips please
If you find she is eating the Burgess food then stick with it rather than swapping around with different ones. Please keep trying with the training as I'm sure this will help. Have you considered a canine behaviourist ?

Re: some tips please
Tip has two plus minus 40 minutes walk a day. She is now six months old and the walks did make her less hyper. We had o get the help from a canine behaviourist and it helped with the jumping and excessive leash pulling we had an issue with. When we meet people (and because she gets so excitable) I make Tip sit. It helps a bit aswell.
Your pup is still young so persevere and don't give up on her. Perhaps see if a behaviorist can't help.

Re: some tips please
i just mean like getting her to sit, doing loads of training etc so she knows shes to behave, if she starts jumping up i turn away and tell to to sit and wait etc, she just wants to be on top of someone lol.
yeah i know a few trainers through work iv had some chats with.
i dont know if its to do with being the only puppy in the litter, its taking so long for the mouthing to stop, she gets so excited and the mouth goes!

Re: some tips please
Bite inhibition is something that is learned from litter mates and the mother so this is why things are taking longer to learn as she missed out on all this.
Please have a read through the link below which is very useful:

Re: some tips please
It is really a persistence thing. The puppiness will eventually wear off...eventually. It does take a long time though for some! Keep at it. Sounds like you are doing what you can!

Re: some tips please
thanks for the supportive words.
is there anyway to help with her barking? its constant, she just wont listen to no and i got home tonight to my mum moaning about it. its for treats mostly but she wont be quiet. we tried the bark collar tht makes a high pitched noise and nothing,we tried the pet corrector spray which she then barked at.
i just dont want my mum getting to miffed as i live with her and its difficult

Re: some tips please
hi
im so worried about her behaviour it seems to be getting worse. i dnt know y she is so hyper and biting at me. she wont listen to a word i say.
im so worried its not going to work.....phoned some trainers and omg they r soooo expensive in this area!!! i just dont have it spare just now.
its gettin to not be fun now at all and is a real struggle. in house she will do tricks et for treats but outside its like "who r u again" she ignores me and wants to jump at everyone. even on long line she wont stop attacking it and snarling and jumping around.
its like were not living a normal life. cant take her anywhere because shes too wild, i went to my sisters and sat on floor with her on lead as she wants to steal things and jump on the kids.
losing the plot with her i just dont know where i gone wrong iv done sooooo mich with her, spent so much on training accessories, toys etc she has everything.
thinking of getting her speyed now but if that does t calm her i dont know what else.

Re: some tips please
I really feel for you, i'm no expert so hopefully somebody will come along later to help, but could there be something in her food that might be making her hyper? have you taken or spoken to your vet to see if theres any other underlying problem. Hope you manage to get this sorted hun.

Re: some tips please
is that a spray in a can? i use water spray much cheaper most of the time i only need to point it at my 2 and they behave! but a water gun is really good for all sorts of behaviour issues but persistance is a must. keep looking for a trainer though the first one i phoned wanted £40 an hour and told me that was cheap!! when out walking dont let your dog have a long lead keep her close to you to heel your the boss! continuously re enforce "heel" you need a firm voice and hand and my 2 have started to calm down the older they get. take her on short walks to start so its not such a dread for you different routes lots of different experiences but only short ones! walks round the back garden on lead basic training like sit heel stay if shes into training treats all the better ,if not any good behaviour a good old praise dont give up some dogs are just a work in progress

Re: some tips please
yes i got a small can as easy to carry around! but i thought it was quite expensive so got a water spray for £1 and it does basically the same thing but is much cheaper and ive got them upstairs and down so ones always at hand if needed works great with chester and his continuous barking and like i said mostly i only need to point it at him theses days and he off!
