Rather worried about my girl
We went away for a few and having come back am a little concerned. The friends that were looking after the pair were fantastic and I've asked them if anything happened and they said no and were really worried that something might be up. I trust them in this respect.
The problem is that she can't seem to jump up onto the sofa like she used to, from standing. Shes putting her front legs up then scraping her back legs. Generally struggling and a little lethargic. Before she would jump from standing and leap up. Any one got any ideas? When she is very excited she seems to forget the pain, but I think thats because shes just so excited she temporarily suffers?
Shes not got a limp. I'm going to take her to the vets on monday. Shes also recently been put on a suppliment for incontinence (from neutering).
I'm a worried mama

Re: Rather worried about my girl
how long were you away for, and when did your friends notice the issue? although she's not limping, she might have pulled something while running that causes a bit of grief with large movements in the hips. you're doing the right thing taking her to the vets, all i'd advise is keep her excercise slow and easy, try and keep her calm in the house (easier said than done i know) and just let her rest as much as possible, hopefully its something of nothing. keep us informed

Re: Rather worried about my girl
Don't worry yet, see what the vets say, usually a limp would indicate an under lying problem. They may just give some anti inflams and say rest, see how she goes, Moo is a lazy sofa hogger, even more so now the evenings have drawn iin.

Re: Rather worried about my girl
We were only away until tues evening (from sat) and they didn't really notice, although did say that they had to help her onto the sofa one time. They were here loads, and our lodger was here all the time, but I think when they arrived the dogs were so excited it wouldn't have been noticable. I've rested her for a few days and was hoping it was my imagination as on walks on lead there isn't a problem, although she seems a little lethagic generally. Its just today that I've got rather worried and have decided a trip to the vets is best.

Re: Rather worried about my girl
Sod's law is that these things happen over the weekend when our vets are playing golf !
Please try not worry tomorrow (easier said than done I know) and just keep an eye on her.
Chances are that she has just pulled a muscle, but you do right in taking her to vet on Monday, if only to set your mind at rest.
Do let us know how you get on

Similar to yesterday. Excited to see us in the morning but then still needing a little help onto the sofa. Vets tomorrow even just to put my mind at rest!

Re: Rather worried about my girl
I think it's only natural for us Mum's and Dads to worry about our little ones, I'm sure if there is anything wrong the vet will soon pick up on it, please let us know how you get on there.

Re: Rather worried about my girl
Medication may make her drowsy. Possibly the not jumping up thing is unrelated. Have you tried examining her? Prodding about gently, gently stretching her legs when she is lying down? Appetite?

Re: Rather worried about my girl
So much better! I think she may have had a virus or some such thing. She wasn't eating much had a swollen tummy and couldn't jump up. By Monday evening she was so much better. Called vets and they said if she seems better wait a day or so then bring her in if any problems. Stomach now not swollen and she's back to her lively self sooo relieved Not sure about drugs for wee problems though they don't seem to be working very well.
