Worried!
I think Max may have dislocated, or even broken a toe diving on his tennis ball
It dont look right to me, and he's limping pretty badly ... I'm off to the vets, I'll let ya know what happens in a bit

Re: Worried!
Hope he feels better soon, I remember accidentally sliding down the stairs feet first and breaking my little toe. Such a little bone but so flaming painful to break!

Re: Worried!
Managed to get straight in thank god ... vet reakons it prob is a break or dislocation, but as usual with the swelling its hard to tell ... AND, he loves it at the vets, so typical staffy grit and adrenaline kicked in and he looked right as rain apart from the toe sticking out at a funny angle and being half as big again than all the others .. hardly limping at all and trying to get at this sassy little chocolate brown Cocker Spanial
Vet also said, TBH, they dont usually intervene too much with a broken toe, unless it dosent settle down by itself with anti inflams, or he is in obvious pain/discomfort .. its too much hassle for the dog, the bones are tiny, and it would probably re-break anyway in a breed like a staffy cus of the way they thrash about
Sooo, after the five day course of anti inflams, short lead walks only (they dont know Max ), if he is still not getting right, it'll be back to vets for an X-ray and see whats next .. but hopefully it wont come to that

Awww poor Max, you will have fun sticking to the short walks, is there anything you can do at home with him to keep his mind at least occupied.

Re: Worried!
Cheers guys ><
He's already trying to bully me into tug o'war games and hobbling quickly past me around the house so he can swivel round in front to face me and goad me into play the little bugger ... trouble is, Max just dosent do relaxed play ... he's literally like a light switch with no dimmer ... this wont be easy
I'm gonna make him some more of the toys out of stuffed legs from old jeans ... he loves those

I think you need to get him some cannabis - get him high & he'll be ok to chill out!

Absolutely right Janey, he just looks at me when I dont take the bait, as if I'd just disowned him
I'll walk him gently on his harness tomoz to take a bit of weight off his front end, and I must stick to dead flat ground so that his foot dosent articulate and push the damaged toe

Re: Worried!
Update - he can walk without limping now, but only if its on flat ground, he was ok for about half an hour on the lead/harness today, but started lifting his foot when standing still
Just hope this goes back to where it should

Re: Worried!
I know ... its a good vets and I do trust them, but being the outside toe and quite vulnerable, I'm worried about it healing in that position and being a real hinderance with Max being such an active boy

Re: Worried!
I don't know how I missed this before - I'm so sorry to hear about Max's toe.
It's good that it's obviously healing, but I do understand your concern about the toe sticking out. I'd be inclined to revisit the vet to discuss it, if it were me.
However, I broke my index finger a few years ago, and although it was strapped to the next finger, it healed kinda crooked - like I was forever beckoning "come here" . But over the course of time (can't remember how long I'm afraid) it straightened out again, so maybe (hopefully) Mother Nature will work the same trick for Max.
Sending Max big >< for his rapid recovery.
