Daisy on RAW - Week 7
First topic message reminder :
So a new week a new thread
Been back to the RAW shop today, the lady was so excited that our first weeks gone well, it was lovely
Anyways, this is the week 2 menu
We continue with the minced chicken carcass and introduce lamb tripe, one day of each for a few days and as long as she's OK on it I can then mix it up a bit or serve both together. One of the sausage packs does 3 meals so it will actually be a day and half of each.
She's had the tripe for tea, ate it fine and not been sick, thank god, would not have fancied clearing that up!
It stinks though, smells like sewage As long as she likes it though!
So far so good....still

Are you buying it weekly and storing it in the freezer Sazzle? Or are you bulk buying?Sazzle wrote:To be honest I don't have a huge freezer so far have just dedicated the biggest drawer to it, just means I won't be able to take advantage of big raw food hauls but we'll manage! I believe Saz buys bits for each week/fortnight as we have a couple of raw feeding shops in Sheffield

Will do, I need to defrost it first to chop it into pieces but they said I can re-freeze it?ella wrote:tiny TINY pieces of liver to start with, and i'd try it frozen she might not like the texture

Buying weekly ish as I don't have much freezer space (given daisy the bottom drawer!) and as Ella says we're lucky and have a shop to buy fromChiara wrote:Are you buying it weekly and storing it in the freezer Sazzle? the boys love their mixed game! I'd definitely recommend their venison, goat and veal when they have it in!

venison is something if it agrees with them to feed as often as you can get it, it's just about as perfect a meat gets for a dog

Thanks for the info girls. I've got DAF fairly near me, I know someone who does RAW for their dogs so I will see where they get their food from. I'm finding these posts very interesting

If your thinking about it you should try it I'm really pleased with how daisy is doing, she looks great and her fur is so smooth and she seems more alert
Although she's just done a very smelly fart!

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Thanks lasses. Lily has started getting a bit of dog breath and I'm worried about her teeth and I know the RAW sorts this out. Lola has a funny tummy and gets a bit loose sometimes, I reckon it would help with this. I notice DAF have some half sheep heads in

Yeah but a head!
Quick question for you, I got daisy a dried lambs leg from another pet shop, she loved chewing on it but I;m not sure if they are safe now? What do you think? I imagined it was just the same as a hoof or antler?

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Personally i wouldn't give them as a hoof isn't made of bone nor is an antler, whereas the lambs leg is bone.
It is dried rather then just cooked but can make the bone brittle and can splinter

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
however people feed cooked bones for years without problem, but it's a risk which is up to you whether you take or not

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Been to the shop today and the lady says I should be fine to feed what I want now Have bought some fish, a bag of sprats and some swordfish and a minced pheasant to try this week.
I cut up a sprat and put it in with the turkey for tonights tea but she wasn't keen and left most of it! May try giving it her frozen instead, or cut into smaller pieces so she can't pick it out!!
She also said I can give raw egg now and I asked about salmon oil, she said if I'm feeding fish I don't need to but it won't hurt if I want to add some too, what do you think?

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Been reading with interest. Firstly Sazzle you are so brave handling all this raw meat, when you're a vegetarian yourself! I'm not but still a bit squeamish with some stuff. Lol
Can I ask what made you want to try it?
I think I prefer to use bought dog food for the main, but could I just occasionally give him a frozen raw drumstick for dinner instead?
How would I know if he is having enough meat on it?
Thanks

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Hiya, daisy has alot of niggly health problems, eyes ears etc so I though a more natural diet may benefit her
You can feed raw as an occasional just feed it seperate to other food as it digests at different time so can cause an upset tummy. So for example, normal for breakfast then a raw drumstick for tea

What do you think about salmon oil? You give it to Darcy don't you? Are you planning to feed raw fish as well?
