Daisy on RAW - Week 7
So a new week a new thread
Been back to the RAW shop today, the lady was so excited that our first weeks gone well, it was lovely
Anyways, this is the week 2 menu
We continue with the minced chicken carcass and introduce lamb tripe, one day of each for a few days and as long as she's OK on it I can then mix it up a bit or serve both together. One of the sausage packs does 3 meals so it will actually be a day and half of each.
She's had the tripe for tea, ate it fine and not been sick, thank god, would not have fancied clearing that up!
It stinks though, smells like sewage As long as she likes it though!
So far so good....still

Sounds great I wish I had the space to have a chest freezer and I would try it. Though Ella's pics freak me out as I'm squeamish I lke the idea of the drier poos

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
To be honest I don't have a huge freezer so far have just dedicated the biggest drawer to it, just means I won't be able to take advantage of big raw food hauls but we'll manage! I'm also squeamish and vegetarianChiara wrote:Sounds great :biggrin:I wish I had the space to have a chest freezer and I would try it. Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
So Daisy's had 3 meals of the lamb tripe, pretty solid poo, a few smelly farts though! Is that normal?
Also I bought her a hoof to chew, she really likes it which I'm slightly surprised about as she's never touched her stag bar. However, she is chewing on it now and its making some right noises, they are definitely safe arn't they?
Oh and all I can smell is tripe!

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
yes tripe farts are very normal!
Yes hooves are fine, the boys destroy the lot in under 10 minutes so i tend to fill them with mince and freeze them to last a little longer

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
it's up to you if you find it easier to introduce using mince then do it that way, but you can feed whole bones and animals from day one

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Cool, maybe start doing that next week, I could maybe get some chicken wings/legs? I think I need to start off small and get her used to it because as you know we've struggled with the bones a bit!

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
yer chicken is the best to start with anyway, you could try holding them for her or give her the bones frozen. Just play about with what she prefers

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Saz how much weight wise do you feed daisy I've looked up this :- As a rule of thumb (or claw!) it is generally considered that your adult dog should consume around 2% – 3% of its own body weight per day. So a medium sized dog, weighing 10 kg, should be served 200g – 300g of food per day.
Darcy weighs 16.2kg ish thanks in advance

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
honestly hayley i wouldn't bother sticking to much to a % i go on the body condition of the dog, as Chance eats 0.8% of his body weight on average to maintain his weight, but i vary each day so some days they get nothing and some days 2-3kg+

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Yeah the lady in the shop said not to stress too much about weights which is good because I've never weighed daisys food!! Of those sausage packs she needs about half to one a day so she's been having a third each meal which is twice a day, think they weigh about 400g xx

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Just realised that I have been given minced duck carcuss not chicken! So looks like that's what we're introducing this week! I'll pick some chicken wings or legs up from the supermarket to continue with the chicken and introduce some small bones, presumably that will be OK?

She ate the Duck this morning but not as quickly so must not be as nice as the chicken and tripe?

duck has a much gamier taste and smell so i guess she was a little unsure about it, can take them a while to get used to itSazzle wrote:She ate the Duck this morning but not as quickly so must not be as nice as the chicken and tripe?

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
Quick question for one of the residemnt RAW food experts?!
Is it very likely that a dog being fed solely on RAW would have one poo at bedtime then another first thing in the morning?

Re: Daisy on RAW - Week 7
I think it depends on the ratios of bones, meat etc they're getting Saz. I know Ella always says her two don't poo that often. Mine will usually still poo either before or after breakfast (every day), sometimes in the afternoon and sometimes before bed depending on what they had for dinner. Only the morning one is like clockwork
