Calpol for dogs ???
Has anybody ever heard of administering it as an emergency pain killer and NOT as long term pain relief ?? A friend has asked and just trying to get her an informed answer
Checked around other sources and seems to be some conflicting advice , but it seems quite clear that if it is used then it can only ever be short term and 1 spoon of baby calpol or 1/2 spoon of 6+ calpol for a staffy sort of sized dog

It's definitely a conflicting subject, as some vets will actually recommend it for very short-term cases, while others will advise not to use it. I should imagine it's alright in small doses, although I would personally opt for something I'm a little more certain of, such as aspirin.

Yeah, just half an Aspirin tablet. I'd make sure they know that that's for dogs though, not cats - cats shouldn't have Aspirin.

I would never use any preparation that contains paracetamol on a dog unless it's specifically advised by a vet, and you're given exactly the right dosage.
Paracetamol can kill a dog, and will kill a cat.
AS Eleanor says, half an aspirin, two or three times a day for a short term pain relief (No more than 2 days without a vet) should be ok, but be prepared for the possibility of bum gravy!

Our vet recommended Calpol when Rocky had kennel cough a while ago, sorry cannot remember how much she advised to use for him though.

If a vet has recommended it, then fine, but not otherwise. Paracetamol can have terrible consequences.Kathy wrote:Our vet recommended Calpol when Rocky had kennel cough a while ago, sorry cannot remember how much she advised to use for him though.
