Peanut butter
Hi
Do you think peanut butter could make a dog hyper active?
Alfie has had a kong each evening for a week, filled with kibble & peanut butter, and his behaivior seems to be getting worse and worse, sort of more manic and excited.
I may be buying the wrong sort, i just got a big cheap jar from tescos, but it does have added sugar in it.
I wondered is this just a progression of adolescent hell or can i blame the peanut butter? I'll stuff it with something else today but just wondered what your thoughts were.
Also, i know its really individual, but when did your dogs start to improve? From memory our other dog came good when he was about 15months old. I realise i cant know for certain, but it would be nice if there was light at the end of the tunnel:roll:
Thanks

Re: Peanut butter
it possibly can yes it does contain a lot of sugar some more then others.
It could definitely be the teenage stage, something harvey never really had but alot of dogs start to grow up around 18 months to 2 years

Re: Peanut butter
a bit of peanut butter shouldn't hurt but i wouldn't give it all the time, why not try some natural yogurt in the kong and freeze it?
Yes unfortunately dogs take a while to 'grow up' some longer then others, you just have to stay calm and consistent with them

i tried the peanut-butter-plus-treats-in-a-kong routine yesterday for the 1st time. It kept Lady occupied for quite a while :-)
trouble is .. now when i make a p.b.'n honey bread slice for me.
i get the imploring 'pleeez can i have some' look from her
i couldn't see giving her some daily .. not with the salt 'n sugar in it ..
found this article:

Re: Peanut butter
i got a jar of the 'meridian' no sugar / no salt yesterday ..
tried some mixed with treats in her kong just now ..
worked fine :-) .. kept her busy for the last hour 'n a half ..
she's still at it, despite the kong looking empty apart from some traces of peanut-butter ..

Re: Peanut butter
I buy own brand peanut butter for Bacchus but I only mix 1 tablespoon to a large cooked sweet potato. He gets this every night as he goes to bed. As soon as he sees me preparing it he dives into his bed in anticipation.
