Kong stuffed with peanut butter
I haven't got a Kong (yet) for my hoodlum, but have noticed how many times it has been suggested that the Kong is stuffed with peanut butter.
How stuffed is stuffed? I would imagine that a Kong would hold quite a lot of peanut butter. My pup is quite a pig for the things he likes (Butchers tripe, cooked liver and yes peanut butter). Would a quarter of a pound or so of peanut butter ingested over a short time give him "digestive problems" ?

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
don't stuff it with peanut butter , stuff it with treats , kibble etc and use the peanut butter to gel it all together

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
Thanks Dave, I might just try that. How long does a Kong stuffed with kibble mixed with peanut butter last the average Staff?

Don't know as TBH ours aren't interested. But I know it's good if you do it all and then stick it in the freezer should occupy for a good while

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
I only use a little bit of peanut butter to plug the end so the rest of the softer stuff doesn't fall out! Biscuit's get stuffed with all sorts, she loves bananas best, apple/carrot slices take her a little while to get out, and she gets her usual feed of tripe in her kong. I smear the inside of it with primula cheese if I just need to distract for 5 minutes (when visitors are coming in etc)

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
We smear a bit of no added sugar etc peanut butter onto a stag bar, we poke a bit down the hollowish end now Dex has managed to crunch loads of the marrowy stuff out. Keeps him happy for ages.

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
OK thanks all of you. I've tried smearing peanut butter over various things but he just licks it off and that's the end of that. Stag bars included, he might play with one for 5 minutes if I insist, otherwise he lets it alone (no wonder it lasts so long ). He's not interested AT ALL in any fruit or veg.
As Kongs are so expensive I can't on balance see that they are worth the expense, - I can stuff other things far cheaper that will occupy him for 5 minutes!
Thank you all! ><

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
Kongs do withstand the chewing I smear around the inside rim with peanut butter and bunged one in the freezer for Ledger to have while the fireworks have been going off and has kept him occupied for a good half hour
Also discovered on Friday breaking up his sausage roll treat and stuffing it into a kong keeps him nice and quiet when I am meeting friends (as otherwise he pesters for attention) as the pastry sticks to the inside when he tried to get it out
I did try the cheap versions out there but they were just pulled apart the kongs (I have a regular and an extreme one) have stood up really well despite Ledgers best efforts

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
Have to admit, I agree kongs are expensive... but as yet I haven't had to replace it. Rolo has his stuffed with either carrots n apple.. bit of peanut butter to glue it in... or his biscuit mixed with wet meat and frozen till the following day. He has his Stag bars and Nylabones etc, but he loves to lay and just chomp away on it or bounce it round the hallway, keeps him amused for an hour plus.

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
Depends what they do with the Kong. If they chew the Kong, it won't last too long, I'd imagine. If, like Loki, Kuchar will just get what's inside it, it'll last forever without any damage. I fill Loki's with some ham/chicken, some of his dry food, a few treats, and seal it with some peanut butter. Or better yet, some natural yoghurt and put it in the freezer. Or you can get one of those hollowed-out bones and fill it with treats so it takes a while to get them all up cos it's all packed together.

Thanks all - I just might get a Kong after all. I do give him a hollowed out bone stuffed with things but he gets all the treats out in about 5 minutes.

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
I stuff Steffi's with treats and block it up with a teaspoon of peanut butter and freeze it overnight.. I give it to her just before I go to work so not really sure how long it lasts her but I never have a problem leaving in the morning She is too busy and dosen't even notice me leave.

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
Pixee can chew through anything, but not her Kong amazing. I stuff hers with treats from cheese, ham, and seal the end with peanut butter, sometimes I ever put in fish for dogs dried food and seal it with peanut better, and that is they only time she will touch the dried dog food. She will keep playing with it once its empty and carry it round dropping it on my feet, saying look mum, its empty, more please

Re: Kong stuffed with peanut butter
Hi I use this all the time and our dog loves it :-) its quite gloopy and sticks to the sides so you don't need to fill it right up. Put some on the back of a teaspoon and push that into the hole.new Staffy owner wrote:I haven't got a Kong (yet) for my hoodlum, but have noticed how many times it has been suggested that the Kong is stuffed with peanut butter.

Also pâté, bovril, Vegemite, honey and marmite also go down well. Mix it up a bit and put in layers with vegetables like carrots and/or kibble. Ie: peanut butter, chopped carrots, marmite, kibble and peanut butter.
Also I heard that you can put other liquid things in and freeze it?
All this was recommended by battersea where we go him from.
