Re: Cold sores!!
Hayley, I feel for you. I used to get them, and always at the worst times - like when I'd been out in the sun or was suffering from stress.
The good news is that they do seem to slacken off as you get older (that's something to look forward to!)
I used Zovirax ointment on them, and as early as possible - at the first tell-tale tingle. With a bit of luck it sent them away again, but usually it just shortened the agony somewhat.
For a long time now I have been putting Blisteze Relief Crème in my lips, about twice a day, and I think that has helped ward them away as well.
You can't avoid the scabby stage unfortunately once they take hold, but plastering Germolene on when no-one can see you will help. Surgical spirit might help too although it stings like anything.
Good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery

Re: Cold sores!!
Thanks Lynda ill definitely try the blisteze method when they've healed I'll go get some Zovirax tomorrow although I just usually leave them to go on their own. Does this help them heal quicker lynda? As I'm going in hospital in a week.

Re: Cold sores!!
Yes Zovirax does help a lot Hayley, although if the sores have really blown up then you probably won't be able to escape the scabby/cracked lip stage (which is where Germolene comes in - we don't call it magic ointment for nothing).
Lard on the Zovirax (ignore the 4 times a day a thing or whatever it says) everytime you feel it tingling/sore/itching. Then when it dries up, lard on the Germolene.
Good luck!
And so sorry to hear about your hospital stay (if you're worrying about it, and who wouldn't, maybe that's why the wretched sores have come up) - Big s for both.
