Straight Face  I read the section about the colour dilution alopecia in blue dogs.
I checked Pebbles' pedigree, both her parents are blue and white, then her gran-parents are the same and so are the great-granparents. Then there is a couple of black dogs down the line. Valglo line is pre-dominant as there are a lot of Valglo dogs in her pedigree. Although her in-breeding co-efficient is only 6% which is good.

She has what seems to be fawny patches throughout her coat, but i think (hope) this is a brindle variation in her blue coat. It's more like an uneven down striped pattern than patches to be fair. But both her parents were solid blue and white with no apparent brindle. Is this 'normal' for her to have some brindle?
I'm now worried that she may get this alopecia because of her blue line. She is only coming up to 3 months this week. Should i mention my worry to the vet at her next visit for worming?

Some blues show solid blue colour when they are small pups but as they grow the brindle will show through. Lily has brindle in her blue coat. Lily does have a lot of blue/blue in her pedigree she is nearly 3 and has been okay biggrin

yes you got lucky chiara line could be free from CDA the breeder breed 2 blue together and half of the litter could suffer from CDA.. this is why this forum can never support blue 2 blue mating

bad breeder breed 2 blue together becasue they only think about the money becasue they very likely to have a full litter of blue selling them £700 plus per pup... soon then later if this carry on more and more blue staffy is going have CDA. another health problem added to the staffy list...

it's drive me nuts

It annoys me too. It's all about greed and not the pups. Of all the colours I have seen more blues than aren't quite breed standard. I think this is because they have been bred for colour rather than characteristics. furious

The problem is growing and getting worse which is why it's so important we try to educate people on the forum regarding this.

Fingers crossed Pebbles will not be affected xx

Well I was totally oblivious to all this when I got Vinnie, and had I known would done a lot more research. Vinnie has brindle in him and as Steve says I am lucky that fingers crossed Vinnie has been very healthy and is now just over 2. Try not to worry too much x

I would try not to worry. Although CDA is nasty, not every blue dog from blue parents will develop it, so keep your fingers crossed!Wink

I wouldn't bother talking to your vet about it because, quite frankly, most of them seem not to have heard about it! If you feel there's a problem at a later date then that would be the time to mention it.
