Any advice on adding another dog to the pack please?
Hello All,
Tomorrow we collect Staffie number 3 - a deaf little girl 3 yrs old rescued by Dogs Trust. I already have Arni who is 10.5 yrs old, and Dizzie who is 6 yrs old, both boys. Although we've owned Deaf and Blind dogs before, I wondered if anyone had any general settling in tips or deaf specific tips that would help everyone get off to a good start? All suggestions welcome :-) (however not collecting her isn't an option )

Well done on the adoption. I have never had a deaf dog, but i had two dogs when i introduced my staff. Generally think that the best way is to have your two dogs walking in the park say, and then you come along with the new dog and walk back home with them. They will have all gotten used to eachother by then and you will have been able to see what way they react. Then at home let the new dog off first to sus the place out and then let your dogs off (calmest one first)

Good for you for adopting a deaf dog! Vibrating collars are often good for training a deaf dog - recall, for instance. You can also get special harnesses which have 'Deaf Dog' written across them so that other owners know.

Thanks Guys for all the lovely comments and helpful tips. The boys have been introduced to her at the rescue centre, no real issues. Just my youngest being a bit tetchy, which he is when he's not at home anyway. I'll keep you all posted, I hope it goes smoothly because she's too cute to give back.

Re: Any advice on adding another dog to the pack please?
I'm pleased to report that Beau has settled in well with the pack, it wasn't an easy process and Beau & Dizzie had a few disagreements, but now do a lot of 'Staffie Play Time' which Dizzie never did before. Its great to see him play. Beau still has a few behaviours that need correcting but she's making good progress and should be attending Agility shortly
Thank you to everyone for your kind words, help and support. I'm glad we could get another Staffie out of rescue.
