Thinking of adding a second
Hi there I have nel she is now 15 months old and even thou she has a lot of freinds down the park and of course me to play with i am thinking of adopting a 3 month old staffy boy I saw today on a website for my local rescue centre. Now I do live in a flat but nel has never messed in my flat after the inatal puppy training phase we have a good walking routine and never leave her home Alone more than for 4 hours a day. I might work full time but luckily for me I work 5 mins from home and come home on my lunah hour to give her a good solid 50 Min walk at lunch plus her 1 and a half hour morning walk and her 3 hour plus evening walks as soon as I come home and then before bed. I am lucky as I have a massive local park no more than 10 mins from my flat in walsall so she gets lots of on and off lead walks and excersise so much so that at her last weigh in she was 4.5 stone of what the vet called lean muscle. She sounds big but she is a staffy x mastiff so is gonna be larger than a pure breed. Now I know I will have to introduce nel to tommy the rescue dog but she has been spayed and I was wondering if having a girl and boy is a good idea or should they really be 2 of the same sex. Tommy was abandoned no abused and according to the rescue centre is good with other dogs. I have explained my situation to them been totally honest and up front about my living arrangements and my works situation and even thou I don't have a garden they have said in principal I might be able to pass the screening process after they visit my home. I really hope I do as I live nel to bits and would not be without her but I really want my next dog to be a rescue to give a dog a chance of a lOving home.
So in closing sorry to ramble was just hoping someone might be able to answer if I need to get same sex or if a boy would be ok

Opposite sexes normally work best. It also helps to introduce them on neutral ground and walk them together if possible. As a general rule walks should be kept to 5 minutes per month of age until they are 18 months old to prevent neuromuscular or bone structure injuries.

Re: Thinking of adding a second
Yeah I understand the 5 min rule I combine the walking with off lead play as I have to cage her for four hours at a time let her run herself into the ground so she sleeps if that makes sense would never just walk her for hours on end St this stage

Re: Thinking of adding a second
Suki doesn't have a garden either. She has a small space outside which is fine given how much we exercise her. I'm sure the visit will be fine when they she how well you look after Nel

Re: Thinking of adding a second
Bad news I have spoken at length today to the rescue where tommy is and they have also now stated I will fail the home visit as I have no outside space for the dog. Does not matter that I have nel and how well behaved and how close I am to not only the arbo in walsall but the local. Park I dis my training with nel which is less than 30 seconds from my flat it's the fact there is no space for them outside My door that he can go do his business in
