Flirt Pole
I was on my way to the area Bacchus and I use for the flirt pole which I improvised from a 2 piece lunge whip ( my garden is a bit too small to use it properly ), when I passed one of my neighbours, who has a Westie, and was working in his garden. He asked me what the whip was for, so I said " Have you ever tried beating a staffy with your bare hounds? They are solid muscle!! " His expression was priceless until I explained what a flirt pole was for.

I need to get myself one of these but do worry about Tommy getting a little over excited

Re: Flirt Pole
good one
Max had got quite a bit of attention on our hol with ppl wanting to make a fuss of him (its a staffy thing as we all know ), and this one woman was obviously edging her way towards us, Max had clocked her, and was virtually crawling on his belly, ears down, tail and back end whipping from side to side, and she just had to say it didnt she
"will he bite me?" .........
so I said .. "almost definately love, he'll probably take your arm clean off!"
to which she say's with a half smile .. "he looks like he would" ...
so I said .. "so why do want to stroke him then?"

Re: Flirt Pole
Bacchus loves it Dave but tires quickly with all the twisting and turning. He is toning nicely but don't know if it's the flirt pole or just his age. I only use it on one of his walks a day as I'm reluctant to over do it with him being so young. I give him 5 mins. then his walk and another 5 mins. at the end of his walk.Dave wrote:I need to get myself one of these but do worry about Tommy getting a little over excited
Does anyone know the recommended time he should be allowed this??

good answer Andy . Have to say when people come up to fuss ours I always keep Tommy back a little fo the real dog lovers as he likes to say hello with his teeth at time , some are ok and handle it , some aren't , Tilly is still bomb proof and the worst you will get is a dirty pair of trousers , but hey you started it

Max is gorgeous but looks very powerful which might put off the uninitiated. Everyone in our street now knows Bacchus. If he's off lead they get to meet him whether they like it or not and he has changed every one of their opinions about Staffs, even one lady who had heard that when they bite they can't let go because their jaws lock. She has a Cocker and they get on great.

Re: Flirt Pole
I must admit, I do always warn them he's pretty full on, and WILL almost push them over ... so when they say "oh thats ok" ... I cant resist letting the lead tension go a bit so they get the full weight of his excitment
He had one woman on her ar$e in a shopping centre that way once .. funny as f*ck

Re: Flirt Pole
Thanks Nathan. I wasn't thinking so much of the boredom factor although that comes into it too if I don't let him catch it now and again. It was more a concern over his joints etc. as he is only 13/14 mths.

Re: Flirt Pole
His joints should be fine at that age and it can even promote increased bone mass. I can see from your avatar that he has started bulking so his frame should be close to its peak right now. And I must say what a great looking lad he is as well, fantastic looking boy.reuben wrote:Thanks Nathan. Re: Flirt Pole
Thanks for the advice Nathan and yes I'm very proud of him, both his looks and temperament. He really is a sweetheart and, being retired, he is my constant companion. Everyone in the street knows Bacchus as he is not shy about introducing himself and we have made a few converts who previously were wary of Staffs.Nathan wrote:His joints should be fine at that age and it can even promote increased bone mass.
