Wasp sting
Darcy has been stung on her right Back lower leg bloody wasps I had to pull it of and she was looking at me as if to say why are you hurting me mummy i've given her a pirtion and put some anti-histamine cream on, it looks like a little lump is there, should I be doing anything else

Re: Wasp sting
The antihistamines will bring down the swelling soon enough If you want it to go a little faster, you can use a cold compress like an ice pack wrapped in a towel. If she's in discomfort, you can try mixing baking soda into a paste with water and apply it to the sting for twenty minutes.
Hope she feels better soon!

Re: Wasp sting
If there was a stinger left behind, that'll definitely be a bee Probably why the area swelled - the stinger is attached to a venom sack, which will keep leaking venom until the stinger is removed.

Re: Wasp sting
Poor Darcy Fortunately I have never yet had a dog stung by a wasp or a bee, but have personally been stung by both.
As Janey and Eleanor say, if you had to pull the beggar off it may have left its sting behind so it may be worth double checking (it may just look like a small thin thread).
Eleanor's advice is, as always excellent. I swear by anti-histamine cream (Anthisan) for insect bites and stings, and also use it after the pain when it starts to itch!

Re: Wasp sting
Piritan should do its stuff. Marley got stung on his jowls last week and laska got her nose stung yesterday...I have dumb * dogs... marley reacts while laska doesnt but I give Piritan anyway.the swelling on marley goes down after about 30 mins and bee stings seem to react worse than wasps. Marley is a div...oh it just stung me so maybee I should try eating it...daft sod

Re: Wasp sting
If as others have said,if the sting was left behind, it was almost certainly a bee. It's worth mentioning that when removing the sting.....Choose a tool to use to scrape the stinger out. Reach for a credit card or needle, not tweezers! Using tweezers to remove a sting will only squeeze the stinger and pump more venom into the victim's body. Disinfect the object you are going to use with rubbing alcohol.
Scrape the stinger out. Carefully and gently scrape the needle, credit card, or other sharp object over the area in a direction that will "push" the stinger out, applying a very slight pressure, until the singer has been removed.
