Nasal problem :(
Poor Rolo, he's been sneezing and spluttering for a day or 2, a bit off his food and his gums had gone pale. So off to the vet we went today. After being told to stay in the car, incase it was kennel cough (which I adamantly told them it wasn't!) the vet came out to us, he heard his snuffles n snorts and told us to go in His chest is fine, but he has a bit of a temperature although that could be due to the fact that he was in his usual play mode and refusing to stay still... he refused even more when he got probed with the thermometer! Not impressed with that! So it's definitely either an infection or there is a foreign body up there. I had the choice, I could leave him and they'd knock him out, x ray and stick a camera up there or I could try him on a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatories. I've opted for the antibiotics for a few days to see if there is any improvement, he didn't do well last time he was knocked out, and I know for certain he hasn't been running in long grass or anywhere that would increase the chance of something going up his nose. Really hoping that they help or we're back up there next week for further investigation Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Re: Nasal problem :(
Hopefully the antibiotics and anti inflammatories will help It's understandable that you don't want him to go through any unnecessary procedures.
Dempsey gets coughs sometimes, though they usually clear up quickly enough. Irritated us as well when we knew it wasn't kennel cough, but the receptionist still said he had to wait outside in the freezing cold when he was only a couple of months old.
Hope Rolo feels better soon!

Thank you! He's curled up with his Dad on the sofa, any excuse for more cuddles

Re: Nasal problem :(
Could it be an allergy like hayfever? Pollen count is really high this year + Tilly has a piriton every day, which helps her

Re: Nasal problem :(
He had an allergic reaction earlier in the year, he came up in lumps... we think that may have been Parsley or brambles, Piriton fixed that, I did wonder about an allergy but it just didn't seem right?. His sneezing & gagging has eased today, so will just have to see how he goes

Re: Nasal problem :(
Quick update on Rolo, he appears to be all better now The sneezing and gagging has stopped and he is a lot happier in himself. He's nearly finished his antibiotics so hopefully it won't recur. He is back to his full mischievousness and snoring is up to full clear volume.

Re: Nasal problem :(
I wonder if there is something going around. nearly two weeks ago we passed a dog on our walk sneezing and reverse sneezing. i remember it because I thought poor lil soul.
then last Monday Riley my ex's dog started sneezing alot, them Marley did two days later and then Laska followed suit. it took them all around 5 days to recover fully. All stayed bouncy and fine in themselves with no loss of appetite.
so far i have been unable to find any mention of an outbreak of anything by searching vet websites for news but it seems to me that alot of dogs are getting this sneezing episode.

Re: Nasal problem :(
You may be onto something there Nathan, maybe there is a virus around that causes the intense sneezing? The only reason I took Rolo to the vets is because he's due to go into kennels next week and the last thing I wanted was for him to be ill, hence getting it sorted quickly. Had he not been booked in, I probably would have held off from the vets and kept him quiet. Will be interesting to see if anyone else gets a bout of it.

Aww poor Rolo, I do hope he doesn't have undergo anymore investigations.
Did make me giggle with the thermometer though, as Otis plants his bottom firmly on the floor as soon as he gets into the room, as 9/10 the vet needs to have a probe
Let us know how he gets on

Re: Nasal problem :(
You did the best thing as the kennels may not have taken him in if he was sneezing that much. Ive been keeping my two away frim other dogs just in case as I dont want to spread anything either. I'll keep checking all the local vet web sites to see if anything gets reported. May even call one up next week if I dont see anything. Glad hes feeling better as wellkelpie wrote:You may be onto something there Nathan, maybe there is a virus around that causes the intense sneezing?
