Re: Having a big problem
I would have insisted on a quicker appointment, and I'm rather surprised you've left it as long as this.
She is obviously ill & can't maintain the pups if she isn't getting the right nutrients to do so! Do the vets know she has had pups? If so, and they still won't offer you an emergency appointment then I'd phone another vet asap.
It's not only her health at stake, but the pups as well!

Re: Having a big problem
Are the pups feeding? If not, you will need to get some puppy milk formula from the vets to supplement their feeding until she can feed them properly again, but you must face the possibility that she might not want to feed them after her recovery.

As Caryll says quicker appointment to the Vet , insist on an emergency appointment , my vet will see me any time through the day if I think it is important enough

I wanted to restrain from judging you, but this has really mad me mad! You've gone away, leaving your pregnant bitch to give birth at a friend's house? And to cap that, this 'friend' hasn't bothered to get veterinary treatment for what is obviously a very sick bitch?
All the nutrients she is taking in are going right through her at the moment, so not only is she going to lose condition, but she will have nothing to pass on to the pups.
Those pups are likely to be ill themselves, and could well be malnourished.
You have been very irresponsible.

Re: Having a big problem
As already said she needs to see the vet urgently, please do your best by her and her pups who may now need hand rearing.

Re: Having a big problem
if its brown water and constant, it bad and i mean bad. she will be dehydrated will be passing next to nothing on to the pups.
the general rule is that 24 hours with it a vet visit is needed so im suprised the vets have made you wait (find a better one) especially if its been going on for a week! (why didnt your friends do anything???) one thing that can bring it on is stress and I would hazard a guess that having pups in a strange place and wanting to keep them safe would be pretty stressfull. where ever it is its not home. the dog needs a vet asap and im suprised she is still funtioning tbh.
usualy you would starve and feed light meals for a few days but i cant see how you could do that with a bitch with pups... you could try some boiled chicken just to get something plain in her at least she will be getting some protien.

Re: Having a big problem
I'm sorry, but if your friend has had two litters already, why on earth did he think it was ok for a lactating bitch to have severe diarrhoea?
She should have been taken to the vets as soon as she became unwell.

Re: Having a big problem
When all's said and done, the most important thing right now is to get her to a vet. If it was me I'd take her to an emergency out of hours vet immediately, but that's just me.

Caryll is right, please try and contact an out of hours vet.

Re: Having a big problem
This is very scary! I'm worried for the mother and the pups! Hopefully you have gotten an appointment with the vet sooner than Friday! Please please please get her to the vet ASAP! Also please keep us updated and let us know what is going on/ if her and and the pups are alright. Caryll is very experienced so I would take any and all advice she gives you! The mother and pups are in my thoughts and I'm wishing the best for them.

Re: Having a big problem
Sounds to me like the dog is just a money maker. Keep pounding out litter after litter just to make money and to hell with the dogs welfare. Doesn't she know how many unwanted puppies there are? More than likely she doesn't care. And who in their right mind would leave the dog and go on holiday? Bitches need to feel safe and secure before they give birth, not to be thrust onto someone else who also sounds as clueless as the owner. GET HER SPAYED AND STOP ADDING TO THE PROBLEM
