Rabbit Running
I call it rabbit running, not sure what you would call it? Where for reasons unknown Louby will start running, her back end is down, tail between the legs, ears back and eyes bulging and literally running all over the house and garden at top speed.
But its blooming dangerous, not only does she bang in to the table, sofa, walls and doors, but when she gets to me she jumps up to face height and its really like she is going to bite me (maybe playfully, but it will still hurt if she actaully got me)...More than once she has ended up with my knee in her chest, only from me bringing it up to protect myself, not to kick her...Then if i can i try to close the door to whatever room im in so she cant get to me until she calms down.
Its quite funny to watch, but as i say, its dangerous for her and us. Why do they do it? It can happen any time of the day, wether she has just been for a walk or not.
I personally think she brain damaged..ha ha x

Frankie does this everyday!! He starts in the garden, charges into the lounge and bounds across the sofa back outside. Does several laps of this!!! It never fails to make me laugh!

Re: Rabbit Running
Rocky does skooter rooter as I call it around the bedroom, he runs up to the bed runs around it then jumps down onto the floor doing skooter rooter all the time then back onto the bed again and around and around again. We just put it down to excitement and a bit too much energy.

Re: Rabbit Running
Biscuit does this too.. she will jump up and mouth occasionally but she mostly just humps you when she manages to get to you It's generally excitement and a way to get rid of excess energy.. although she will also do it after a 4 hour walk!! I think it's funny.. I've swiftly learnt that you can't be precious with a staffie in your house

Haa!! Rolo does this... he gets the "Pixie in his pants"!! He gets a sudden look of surprise, braces himself then... OFF he goes... through the house, flip turns off the front door straight back out into the back garden to then repeat the Zoom through the house and door flip again... We just freeze.... it's safer

Re: Rabbit Running
Lady does something similar .. usually first thing once she's in the front door after a trip in the car .. despite having at least 2 playbreaks whilst out .. frizbee catch 'n run around .. and also late evening at home for some odd reason .. she crouches down with a manic look on her face .. as if about to spring jump .. then runs around completely bonkers jumping up at me as well .. lasts a few minutes .. then suddenly stops .. unless i join in with this 'fantasy play' then it can go on for a bit .. .. inconvenient if it's just before my bedtime ..

Re: Rabbit Running
We call it zoomies, and ours do it when they get over excited. Think its about keeping their excitement levels in check though with a staff its easier said than done! I haven't found a cure yet bar getting out a bone or something to distract them!

Luckily Bacchus only does this very rarely as he is now 20 kilos. Got caught in a rain shower last week while out walking and that set him off

Re: Rabbit Running
The terrier tuck.
Wingo does this if I make eye contact with her and gesticulate like I'm play bowing.
Sets her off around the house, garden. anywhere.
Usually ends up with her doing Supermans off the end of the sofa.

Yep Buster does it even after he`s had a long walk. All of our dogs have done this tho over the years and weve had several different breeds. Even our Rhodesian Ridgeback used to do it and you did`nt want him barging into you

In EBTs it's called hucklebutting! All hunched up, ears back, eyes wide &.........................get outta the way!!!!
Bandit used to do it all the time - Dempsey (thankfully, at his weight) only does it occasionally!

Re: Rabbit Running
she was doing it again this morning - it wouldnt be so bad if she just ran and ran, but she seems to want to include me in this too by jumping up and biting me, then running away, then coming back jumping up and biting me - i have to literally shut her in a room to calm down!!

Re: Rabbit Running
It's a bit like watching a child that's had too much cheap fizzy drink! They get all twitchy, hunched & wide eyed & then all hell breaks loose! There's no point in trying all the usual techniques because they go into a 'zone' all their own & you have to wait for them to burn it off a a bit. If she's biting, then another room is probably all you can do!Mrs McFisher wrote:she was doing it again this morning - it wouldnt be so bad if she just ran and ran, but she seems to want to include me in this too by jumping up and biting me, then running away, then coming back jumping up and biting me - i have to literally shut her in a room to calm down!!

Re: Rabbit Running
A lot of terriers, especially bully breeds, do it. I think it's just because they're very high energy dogs. They're like coiled springs!

Re: Rabbit Running
Not to be crude - but at one point i was sat having a wee and the bathroom door was open, all i could see was this blur of a white running backwards & forwards past the door - very funny.

Dempsey does it when he gets in trouble. Also if it's raining, and in the mornings before his walk, and sometimes just because.

Rocky does this when I get back from being out. I don't know if its because he is happy to see me, or just feels like having a mad moment! But it's hilarious either way

We call it Zoomies too Axl does it and it ain't pretty when he does, all 24kg of him.. sometimes he manages to miss the coffee table, sometimes he even manages to stop before he hits the balcony doors and most of the time he will hit something.. I just tuck my feet up on the sofa and wait for it to end lol. If I see "the look" happening I will pick up his bones quick because he does have a habit of taking them on zoomies with him and throwing them mid run... I have lots of little pocket holes in the walls where they've been thrown /sigh
