We have a Lionhead rabbit named Tinkerbell that Tate WILL get on with and look after as his own sister...... does anybody have any advice as to how we will make this happen from day one? Big Grin

dp you mean you are getting a dog and want to introduce it to the rabbit so that they get on. how old is the dog and what is the rabbit like round other animals. the dog may get on with the rabbit but the rabbit might not like the dog.

If the pup's brought up with the rabbit & is taught manners around it right from the start, there shouldn't be a problem. However, some bull breeds still have a 'ratting' instinct so you might need to keep an eye on them when they are together, and the rabbit may never really like the dog, being a prey animal & the dog a predator.

the rabbit hasn't been around other animals. I agree with you both that Tinkerbell is more likely to be the problem. Tate will be introduced as soon as we get him so at that age I'm sure he will be fine. His crate will be next to her so she may grow to get used to him?

It's quite possible that they'll be best of friends!

I could never allow Dempsey anywhere near a rabbit - he'd eat it. Sad

I've never done it, so cant really comment, but my only worry would be the wabbit bitin !, and would make sure the pup dosent cop any sneaky bites that go un noticed and could possibly get infected etc ???

but like I said, I've no experience on the subject (other than Max caught a bunny on the feild a few mths back, and wasnt quite sure what to do with it Laughing , so he just let it go bless him Love Struck )

My sheepdog grew up with a rabbit, and apart from wanting to constantly herd him about the place, They got on ok, the rabbit was the one to watch though as he was rather feisty!

No experience here. If the dog was around the rabbit since he was a pup and watched closely it should be okay
