always munching on grass !
hey all,
Just after a bit of advice, my dog is forever eating grass (the longer the better) is this normal or is he trying to settle his stomach ???
its not so much fun when it gets stuck the other end so if there is a way of stopping it i would be greatful for the advice
Ta muchly

Re: always munching on grass !
Moo is a grass muncher, just try and discourage it when you can as they can't digest it. Grassy bums aren't great lol!
I just say no when she starts but she always has a few mouth fulls, sometimes she runs like a basking shark munching on it

Sounds very familiar with us too, just try to call him away from it if you can or tempt away with a toy or small treat.

Our 2 love it as well - I just let them get on with it but haven't noticed a problem at the other end! Perhaps I'm not looking close enough

Re: always munching on grass !
It's a normal thing. I let Douglas eat as much grass as he wants. No dog has ever died of a grassy bum. Dogs eat grass to settle their stomachs, it aids digestion.

I seem to have the only dogs not bothered about eating grass, they might have the odd strand of grass but thats it

Re: always munching on grass !
Have had to extract a few blades of grass from Wingo's bott on a couple of occasions.
Every now and again, she goes mad for fallen leaves too - the more dried up and crunchier, the better.

Re: always munching on grass !
It definitely worries a dog having grass hanging out of its bum, and only we can help them with that (big dock leaves do come in so handy).
I restrict Kuchar now to a couple of chomps to satisfy his ripping, tearing fetish, and that's it. I don't believe that it does any harm (apart from the worry they feel about something they cannot pass without our aid), but I don't believe grass eating does any good either.
