Blindness in dogs Horsham-20130622-00318_zps2bb480fc

My rescue dog Nelson has had eye trouble all of his life. About 3 months ago after developing glaucoma he unfortunately had to have both of his eyes removed. I was a little sceptical about his quality of life after the operation but he astonishes me every day with how he adapts to it. He know can navigate his way around the house and the other day I went out and he was downstairs on his bed, when I came home and he was upstairs curled up on our bed (like he used to!). He is a completely new dog and loves life again, because he must have been in quite a lot of pain before his operation. Just because your dog develops some imperfections as they grow older it doesn’t mean that they can’t have a great life still.

Wow, he must have a new lease of life without all the discomfort. Very sweet he found your bed to curl up on, I've no doubt other senses kick in when another is missing ie: the nose.

A lot of people say that, when a dog loses one sense, the others strengthen. Smile

Great post! I'm glad he's doing well now!
