Vets Again
Hello
Well for about 2-3 weeks now Otis has had a rash on his tummy, some of the spots are a little over the size of a pea, quite red and a couple have gone a little dry and scab like. We are not sure what has caused it as nothing has really changed with what I wash his bedding in, food, or what we use for a shampoo when we do wash him.
We took him to the vets no the 4th of July and the vet gave him an injection with antibiotics and another for the itching. I will put a picture up shortly but I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. We are taking him back tonight as I'm not happy that the rash hasn't settled and there are fresh spots appearing
I am suspicious of the hot weather and the grass as he does like to throw himself into it when he is hot but the vet said it was hard to put it down to one thing and it's unusual for a dog his age to show an allergy.

Re: Vets Again
Zeus had something similar a while back and it was put down to a grass allergy, I think he was just about 1 years old when it happened. The vet also gave him a jab to calm it down but suggested I give Piriton to keep it at bay whenever it flares up or if hes on grass.
I also rub Sudocrem or Coconut oil on flare ups which seem to calm it down.

Re: Vets Again
Darcy has had what sounds like Otis is suffering with, down to allergies, I wash her down with a damp cloth after walks and give her 1/2 a piriton twice a day if it flares up.

I also rub Zeus down with either doggy wipes/wet wipes or a damp cloth after a walk, including his paws, as he tends to bite them alot if I don't (again, due to the grass allergy).

Re: Vets Again
This is what it looks like. Sorry it's of his nether regions but that is where it is most obvious. Thank you for your tips! Think I will definitely ask about a piriton tonight and will start to rub his down with a wet towel to help him out It doesn't seem to be sending him mad - I just catch him licking it every now and then

Re: Vets Again
my poor little man is on antibiotics for 3 weeks now- the vet said it looks typical of a skin infection from the staphylococcus family. He said that it lives on the skin anyway but if there is an imbalance this can occur. We have to go back to check that the bacteria is susceptible to the antibiotics in 3 weeks when we have a check up. He said that the lesions can take up to 6 weeks to improve I hope that it clears quickly

Re: Vets Again
I was thinking insect bites as well, but if the vet says a staph infection then the antibiotics should clear it up. Good luck Otis - hope it clears up soon!

Re: Vets Again
Oh that's a nuisance Sarah. Does it look as if the anti-biotics are having any effect yet?

Re: Vets Again
Oh gosh you couldn't be more right that its a nuisance, he managed to be poorly in my car and the covers weren't down- so out came the vax not his fault of course I felt really sorry for him.
With regards to the infection is does look like its improving to be honest- I haven't seen anything fresh coming on his tummy and what was there is drying out and scabing. We go back on the 5th aug for a check up to see where we are at. We may need to do a hair pluck and skin swab if the vet isn't satisfied to find out exactly what is causing the problem.
