Walkies Empty Walkies

Post by mikec Mon Jun 24 2013, 19:00

We had our first walkies today and loved the cyclists, people running for the train andbusses lol.

It also made me chuckle a bit how even though most people were smiling there were the odd few that tried to keep away. How can you be nervous of a tiny little waggy tail!

I'm aware of how long pups should be walked (months x 5 minutes) but is this the quota for the whole day or per walk?

Do not quote me on this but I think it is per walk, I walk roxy 2 - 3 times a day for 15 min's, she is 3 months.

With regard to pups walkies, 5 minutes for each month of age, per walk.

Yeah she was a nightmare when I first got the lead on a couple a weeks ago but after a few days intense training she only likes to chew when she's over excited!

Abby is gorgeous! I don't know why anyone would be frightened of a little puppy of whatever breed, unless they are dog-phobic (and there are some such people, poor souls).

Abby looks like a confident little girl - looking forward to seeing how she's growing up (which will be SO quickly)!

walking time is as mentioned above, but if you can find a pup of similar age its good to let them have some seriouse play time together which is not counted in the walk time. a constant walk stresses joint whereas playing and jumping about excersises them. its the continuouse grind you need to avoid.

Oh my god!!! That pic is the cutest thing I've ever seen, seriously adorable!!! Some people are pretty ridiculous aren't they? When Gwen was a tiny little puppy (10ish weeks old) I had a woman say "oh goodness, she looks mean" !!!!

Great pics , in addition to the 5 mins per month per walk ( which I would tend to limit at 2 -3 maximum ) you can also have off lead play to build up the time as they generally can regulate themselves , stopping when they need to during the activity , but if you have a little nutjob on your hands you may have to take charge and tell her when to stop.

Amazing how people can get nervous of a ball of fur isn't it

This really irritates me! The other day we were walking down the road. Infront there was a lady with a staffy prob similar age to Lola. Heading towards her was a lady with a bichon frise. Lady with bichon crossed the road. So I decided to cross and head towards her. She then crossed back over to the other side and a right look of disgust on her face. What is wrong with some people???

Back to ur topic, Lola gets approx 30 mins with about 15 mins in between off lead to play fetch and have a sniff about twice a day.

Abby seems to be able to regulate herself pretty well and I could tell she was about to flop just before we got home so carried her to the house.

To be fair I can understand how some people can be nervous about a full grown Staffy if they have had general bad experiences with dogs previously but I could never understand the fear of a tiny puppy that just wants to say hello.

We go to puppy classes for socialisation and my mate down the road has two 8 month old pugs that she had a play with which was so funny to watch. She got a telling off from them as well which was good to help her learn some manners. Poor bub seems to have just started teething as well.
