Walkies! Empty Walkies!

Post by Eris Sun Feb 10 2013, 13:33

I'm wondering about how long I should exercise Roger for, and when he can go on to proper adult doggie walks.

At the moment he gets 20 minutes once or twice a day. This usually consists of 10 minutes on lead road walking, and 10 minutes off lead charging about on the field/beach.

I'm kind of going by the 5 minutes per month of age (he's now almost 17 weeks)

So, am I doing the right thing? And how long until he can cope with longer walks? Ultimately we're aiming for 2-3 hours at a time as we often go on countryside adventures during the spring and summer.

Thanks.

you can have longer walks now so long as its all off lead and he can dictate his own pace and rest when he wants so throw another 10-20 mins of off lead in there no worries, we had to adjust like this as our older girl would miss out whan Tommy was growing up . Generally speaking as long as you are not doing anything high impact then 12 months ish should be ok for some nice countryside strolls , just remember to give him some breaks
