Last couple of nights Tommy has woke me up doing a couple of mahoosive sneezes , like his heads going to blow off , not a peep out of him through the day , anything I should be getting checked out do you think . all 3 hoomans have various bad colds at the moment and wondered if the kids can pick this up ?? (I'm obviously worst)

Re: Tommy Sneezing
There might be something irritating the mucous membranes of his nostrils. I'd leave it for another 24 hours and keep an eye on him. If you have a thermometer, it'd be worth taking his temperature to make sure he isn't ill. Dogs can't catch human colds though - colds aren't zoonotic.

say it was only night time nothing through the day thats why I thought it a bit strange , sleeps at the bottom of the bed generally too so not affected by anything that might be put on the pillarEleanor wrote:There might be something irritating the mucous membranes of his nostrils. My Tank sneezes a lot - he's a loud sniffer when he's exploring - when he sneezes its loud ! Cpl of times he's sneezed n bashed his nose on the floor resulting in a nose bleed.
As for catching colds ? Wouldn't have thought so - but something in the environment irritating his nasal airways - yep - pollen, dust, general outside debris.

Re: Tommy Sneezing
It could be reverse sneezing. It usually happens at night. It's caused by something irritating the soft palate. If you manage to catch him in the act, the eyes can be a give away. If they stay open, it's probably a reverse sneeze.
It could be triggered by the warmer, humid weather we've been having. If it doesn't go after a couple of days, you could try asking your vet.

Re: Tommy Sneezing
if its not something in the house it could be a strong pollen in the garden triggering it. some plants emit a very strong smell during dusk/early evening to attract moths etc. an antihistamine tablet given about an hour prior to dusk will sort it if thats the case. dont bother with the vets, just use piriton and you only need one tab per night. the cycle of the plant only lasts a couple of weeks so one pack should do. sweet pea and honeysuckle are some of the worst if you have them. if you have nothing in your garden it could well be in a neighbours. in that case agent orange the neighbourhood lol

Re: Tommy Sneezing
Don't suppose you are using Vick for your cold or something like that before going to bed
and this is irritating him and making him sneeze.
Or if he sleeps on your bed, have you changed the washing powder or softener.
The clue seems to be in the bedroom

Re: Tommy Sneezing
Does sound like possible reverse sneezing, they can be really loud!
It was massively loud , the first one woke me up , on the 2nd I expected to see his head fly across the room

Vinnie has been sneezing quite a bit too but I put it down to pollen as we are in the woods at least 3 times a day. I also have suffered too this year and never have before:D

Hoping you and yours get over your colds soon, Dave ><
I don't need to tell you that dogs can't catch our colds, and that it is probably something you are using to recover from your "disease" that is getting up Tommy's nose.
Get well soon!
