Just had nelly spayed and....
Hi all we had our nelly (bitch) spayed today and all is well she's a bit groggy but perking up nicley but our male Bruno has stated sniffing her rear end like she's in season and gets himself hot under the collor is this normal as I can't find anything on the Internet so I'm a bit lost?
Before anyone says anything they are kept apart and they will be sleeping seperatly till she's back to normal as I don't want her hurt accidentally if his male instincts take over
Cheers in advance :-)

Obviously she must be treat with total kid gloves at the moment and any accidents are to be avoided at all costs, couldn't say on the excitement bit as we only had Tilly when she was spayed

He can probably just smell the wound & doesn't really understand it.
Try to keep him away for a couple of days because you don't want him to start licking her wound.

I think Caryll has pinpointed it exactly, dogs have a remarkably acute sense of smell. But Nelly will need some recuperative time, so do keep them apart for the time being. She'll probably (in my experience anyway) get over her op far very quickly, but it is very important that the sutures are kept free from licking, either from Nelly herself or your concerned little boy.
