J line Staff
I got talking to a guy today in the local chip shop and he asked me if my staff was a J line Staff.
I didn`t know there were different blood line varients..
My understanding was that there are staffies and miniature Staffies. Pardon my ignorance but could someone
elaborate more for me please.

Re: J line Staff
There aren't any miniature staffies. Just normal staffies.
Also, 'J Line Staff' refers to the breed name. Every pedigree dog will have a breed name and successful breeders will have a 'signature' breed title. For example, our bully's breed name is 'Frachadem Thriller In Manilla'.
'Frachadem' is the breeders' signature title. Each dog by them will have 'Frachadem' in its pedigree title.

Re: J line Staff
Did he say what he meant by 'j' line?
There are various 'lines' that date back to particular stud dogs in the very early days, but I doubt very much if he'd be able to tell which line a dog is just by looking at him! There's also no such breed as a 'miniature staffordshire bull terrier'.
Basically, he's a steamer!

Re: J line Staff
Why do people refer to certain staffies as miniatures. My understanding was
that certain breeders purposely miniaturised generations for different reasons, hence the miniature staff name. I have heard the miniature phrase used numerous times.
I have been doing a bit of googling on the J M etc lines of Staffie and they
are basically desendants of certain dog breeders.

Re: J line Staff
Just looked up J-Line. It isn't a breed name - my mistake. It's one of the six main lines of Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Re: J line Staff
The guy was sound. I was the one who brought the whole miniature Staffie
thing. He shows his dog and all he said was a J line staffie.
He showed me some pics on his phone and I have to admit it, the dog as a
nice dog. Not as nice as mine though..

Re: J line Staff
To get a 'mini staff' you would have to breed a staff with something smaller, hence it would be a cross

The people who refer to them as miniatures are most likely just ignorant (not meant as an insult) of the breed. The breed standard outlines the desirable height of staffies to be between 14 and 16 inches, so any smaller than that wouldn't be worth any proper breeder's time and money. The people who breed them to be smaller would be doing it for money.

Re: J line Staff
I'm sure there are some very small staffords out there, but they're still staffords, not miniatures.
The only way you can tell if a dog is from a particular 'line' is to research his pedigree back to the 1930s.

Re: J line Staff
These are the 6 main 'lines'........
Six main lines are known, which are named after their founder. The two most important ones are the J-Line (named after Fearless Joe) and the M-Line (named after Brindle Mick). Other lines are: L-Line (Game Lad), B-Line (Rum Bottle), R-Line (Ribchester Max) and C-Line (Cinderbank Beauty).
My old boy, Bandit, was an 'M' line boy - descended from Brindle Mick.

Re: J line Staff
Thanks guys.
That's cleared everything up. My Staffie was never registered but his parents
were. I`ll give his parents owner a call and see what info I can get.
I got his as a pup for nothing so I can`t complain.

Re: J line Staff
To be honest, it really makes no difference which 'line' they're from (other than the fascination of tracing a pedigree back to the founding dogs!), and they've been bred across the lines so much that the likeness to each of the founding studs has been lost over the years!
