Liver treats
So i got sum posh herby liver treats for my two and they loved them but now they'r all done Of course i love my pups and wouldnt grudge them a few quid but couldn't help but think about the price of liver (cheap) and the price of the tiny bag of treats (not so cheap) ....so was thinking about making themself!
Saw Ella's liver cake, that looks awsum too and will b trying that out but was wanting hard treats to use when im out and about for recall etc......i was reckoning that i could just slice up sum liver and dry it out in the oven? would this work? anyone tried before or got a recipe?

Re: Liver treats
I've frozen Ella's liver cake, and just take out what I need, works a treat! Pardon the pun. But baked or dried liver is just as good, I'm sure Ella will be able to advise you

Anything dried out will work great. Although liver might not dry out it might just go to mush?

Re: Liver treats
I buy liver every now and then for treats for ledger and just bake it sprinkled with some cheap parmesan and garlic granules then cut up and freeze down in batches
If I remember right the pigs liver worked quite well but the ox liver was a bit soft and crumbly

Is it better at a high heat or just low for longer?

Re: Liver treats
Well I cheat I have a food dehydrator and liver is probably the best thing for drying, it's comes out like little chips so I stick it in there for about 12 hours at 70c and voila
But as Hayley said you can feed liver cake frozen so it's crunchy that what I do

Re: Liver treats
aww i'd love a dehydrator but kitchens tiny and my cupboards of full of all other kitchen appliances - george foreman, panini press etc
So i'll just have to make do with the oven for now!

Re: Liver treats
I tried using the oven but they just don't come out good enough.
Have you tried the fridge drying method?
Cut the liver in to small treats, and put on a plate uncovered in the fridge for about 5 days or until they are dried enough for your liking

Re: Liver treats
I buy pigs liver every week (lambs liver is too expensive, and ox-liver goes "green").
I put it on a baking tray and put it in the oven for about half/three-quarters of an hour at about Gas 5.
The result is put in a plastic bag in the fridge. Kuchar gets to lick the baking tray once it's cooled down. The liver bits are easy to carry in my pocket and break off a bit for "come here" or "good boy" treat. Any crumbly bits left in the bag are scattered over his food to make a change.
