Is she a staffy?
Firstly let me say if she is not then it will not matter to us as she is already part of the family.
We bought Roxy at 8 weeks, she came without papers but we did see the mum and dad, we have had eating issue with her and judging by her weight she is well under the weight of a staffy pup standard weight for her age, about 40% under.
I know it is hard to say at such a young age but here is a pic of her at 10 weeks.

She looks fine to me from that angle, but I'm by no means any kind of staffy expert. Either way, she's a cutie!

Re: Is she a staffy?
We are just really concerned about her weight, she looks in proportion, but at 10 weeks she is under 3kg
Her eating has been a real challenge also, she seems to turn her nose up at everything.

Aww she's such a cutie, & looks staffy to me. like you said it's hard to tell at such a young age but she looks fine.

Re: Is she a staffy?
She looks likea baby Tilly to me . Under 3kg does sound a little on the small side but that depends how big she is in general. As above the pic (assuming it is recent) indicates she is well proportioned.
What are you feeding her ? How many meals a day ?
Maybe if you could post a few more pics at different angles we could see better. Ideally a pup should be a little chunky until they get to 4 months ish and their exercise levels are higher and they start losing a bit

She is totally adorable. Try not to worry too much about her eating but keep trying different options. If you are calm she will be calm. Egg?

She looks like a Staff to me. I would have a word with the Vet if you are worried about her weight

Re: Is she a staffy?
She was at the vets last week for her first injections, we explained the eating to him and he said to try her on the mince, he also said she will not be a big dog.

Re: Is she a staffy?
We are not really bothered if she is not 100% staffy as we got her as a family dog nothing more nothing less, the eating is a concern, she is playful, full of beans and looks in proportion, all we can do is persist, she is back at the vets this weekend coming for her second jabs and microchip so we will have a chat with the vet then.

Re: Is she a staffy?
She looks fine from the pics there , Tommy had mince when we first got him up until about 12 weeks when he was bored with it and we gave him porridge for breakfast made with goats milk . The advice from the breeder was good and always to get the fat on without overdoing it whilst they were this age
What did mum and dad look like , that would normally be your best indidcator , if they were both smsall then she will generally be small. And they all grow at different rates.
Other than weight is ther other reasons why you suspect she may not be 100% staff, she looks full staff to me and I love the white flash on her chest

Re: Is she a staffy?
I guess i am just a little dubious because of her size at the mo, we met both parents, this is a pic of dad, obviously we do not know he is dad, mum was of similar size and was obvioulsy mum looking at her teets.

She look staffy, but if she is unKC reg then you will never know what her breeding is. If that is the father he is not standard and has not got great confirmation but looks well muscled.

Re: Is she a staffy?
Looking at him with a showing eye he wouldn't be high in the show ring, his head isn't the right shape and his legs are not correct.
Guest- Guest
Re: Is she a staffy?
Yes, the dad is very short-legged and has quite poor conformation (from a showing point of view) but he looks healthy & fit.
I'd say your pup will always be small - I'd hazzard a guess and say she was the smallest of the litter? She does, however, look very healthy & the right weight for her size. Actually she's really quite beautiful!

Re: Is she a staffy?
Ah she gorgeous she looks just like my little Ava. Ava is 12 weeks now and not a big girly at all. Her 7 brothers weigh more than her now but height wise there isn't much difference.
Only thing I did notice which made me think was on the write up about the dad it says they he will not be mated with any bitch that isn't KC registered. Why breed two KC reg dogs and not have the pups registered? And if the mum isn't KC reg then why did they allow the breeding in the first place. If you really want to know if you've been told the truth or not then I'd contact the owner of the dad and ask if he is actually the father of these pups.

As Tracey says, it's odd that the bitch's owners went to the trouble & expense to choose a KC reg dog, and then didn't register the litter. Makes me wonder why?

Re: Is she a staffy?
Strange something doesn't seem right to me. If it was me I'd own two KC reg dogs and then if a litter was produced i'd KC reg them too. You're carrying on the family bloodline and champion line.
Either way she is gorgeous and as you're not planning to show her then it really doesn't matter. I'd say she is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier end of xXx

She will grow into a beautiful little girl who treated and trained the right way will be a fantastic member of your family where she came from doesn't matter now you have her and you're doing the right thing it's normal to be worried about your furbaby no different to worrying about your human ones

Re: Is she a staffy?
Very true, training is going well so far, she sits, she is toilet trained and create trained, the kids love her and she seems to know her place in the pack, not bad for 2 weeks work. The nipping is still there but I guess that is normal for a pup.

Re: Is she a staffy?
lol totally normal puppies explore with their mouths. Just stick to a firm no and if she gets to much then put her out/down and ignore her for a while. Ava's almost there on the nipping but having Obi as a chew toy doesn't help lol.

Re: Is she a staffy?
I just spoke with my wife, apparently the reason she was not registered is because he felt he would not get what he wanted for the pups if they were registered, and wanted a quick sale.
Sounds a little dubious to me but as I say I am probably over thinking things.
the guy seemed genuine, he showed us all the paper work for mum and dad including eye test results ect.

Wanted a quick sale? Wow, sorry, but that's a really bad breeder! I'm glad she found you because I hate to think what might have happened to her otherwise!
It's really cheap to register a litter of pups, and you don't need to charge more if you don't want to.
No, I think there's something very fishy about it, but hey, so what? She's a beauty, and you have her!

Did they tell you how old the bitch was? Cause they have an age limit too.
Guest- Guest
Re: Is she a staffy?
They won't register if the bitch is over 8 years old or under 12 months old.
Guest- Guest
Re: Is she a staffy?
She was over 12 months without a doubt but to be honest I do not know the full history so this could have something to do with the lack of registration.
All in all it does not really matter as she is here with us now and here for good.

The Kennel Club will not accept an application to register a
litter when:
a) The bitch has normally already whelped 4 litters, or
b) The bitch was under a year old at the date of mating,
or
c) The bitch has already reached the age of eight years
at the date of whelping.
d) The offspring are the result of any mating between
father and daughter, mother and son or brother
and sister, save in exceptional circumstances or for
scientifically proven welfare reasons.
e) The dam has already had two litters delivered by
caesarean section, save for scientifically proven
welfare reasons and this only normally provided
if the application is made prior to the mating.

Re: Is she a staffy?
She's a staffy alright and she's gorgeous. I wouldn't worry about her weight too much at the moment just as long as she is eating. All dogs are different and she may start filling out when her metabolism settles down because she is still very young.
On the food issue,i have had 4 staffies in my life and have fed them all on chappie. It was reccomended by my vet when i had my first dog and the first three lived to 14,13 and 15. My current dog tessa came from the rspca last year and she is four now and she was fed on jwb at the kennels so i grudgingly bought a small bag from them when i collected her (they almost insisted i bought it). I tried to give it her when we got home and she turned her nose up at it. Out came the chappie which she wolfed down. Get her on chappie and she will put the weight on and everyone will be amazed at how shiny her coat is and that's the mark of a healthy dog.

Re: Is she a staffy?
Roxy is an adorable Staffy puppy
It's so hard not worry when they are fussy eaters - I had the same with Kuchar when he was little (and quite a bit bigger too). In fact, it was my first post on this forum, I was that desparate! Everyone here was SO so helpful and reassuring me that he wouldn't starve himself, which was true as at 17 months he now weighs 20kg and is not fat, although I did have fiddle about with various foods and mixtures to give him something new and tempting every day.
The turning point for me was when in desperation after his fairly recent castration op, when he reverted to refusing to eat at all, I went to PAH in search of their little Wainwrights trays to mix in with his "main" food to try to get him to eat, but they had disappeared. So I bought a box of 12 Wainwrights trays, and to my surprise they were much bigger than the little trays I had bought before, and a meal on their own. And we haven't looked back - he wolfs it down! And it's good food too!

Chappie isn't one of the worst dog foods around, but it really isn't good! Yes, your dog can look good on it & live to a ripe old age, but it isn't a good quality food - your dog would look & be even better & fitter on a better dog food!

Re: Is she a staffy?
Roxy definitely looks staffy to me! "trying to make a quick sale" this breeder sounds completely irresponsible to me! Like Caryll said, I am glad that you got Roxy as it seems you will give her the love and care she deserves! Who knows where she would have ended up otherwise! As far as her being small, I think she is on the smaller side but does not look skinny or anything! All pups are different sizes and grow at different rates. If she isn't eating that would be cause for concern! She is a gorgeous little girl! I understand the worrying because when it comes to Gwen it seems everyday there is a new thing I'm worried about! Better to be overly worried and cautious in my book! However just try to relax and enjoy her puppyhood!!! Always feel free to ask any questions that you may have!!
