leaving your dog tied up
i actually managed to get a saturday of work to day so me and hubby when shopping together, first stop pah and got out the car and tied up out side was a black/white staffy, thought dogs were allowed in myself?then had a walk round and out side a betting office was a little black staffy and she was crying ,then further up the street out side a pub was another black staffy tied up.i could never leave sash tied up out side any where and it made me really sad to see these dogs just tied up whilst their owners left them

Re: leaving your dog tied up
Very occasionally I leave Moo outside but its just when I am popping in for fags, and I always buy a big issue from the seller outside on the condition he keeps an eye on her

I wouldn't dare leave Dempsey outside, even for a few seconds. For one thing he'd be stolen, and for another he'd probably bite somebody!

This is something I would just never do. It saddens me to see dogs tied up outside shops knowing what could happen to them

Re: leaving your dog tied up
I'd never do that, not just because someone might steal him, but also because he'd start crying and barking, and would possibly jump up/nip someone passing by. Or get loose. Too many what ifs, no way. I love bringing him to Pets At Home.

Re: leaving your dog tied up
I'm the same as you, Janey. I tie Rupes up when I need to get a pint of milk etc but always within sight and only briefly as I am terrified of losing him. He sits there quite patiently and I'd prefer to bring him out on my milk/bread buying duties as he gets a little walk in the meantime.
I see lots of Staffs outside pubs around here happily (I think?) lazing about in the sun while their owner is inside. It's different when the dog is distressed.

Dogs are allowed in the shop around the corner from me, he's been in since he was first allowed out, the guys in the shop are always mentioning how much he's grown so I never have to worry about that.

I never leave lexi tied up cause i know that others bring their dogs and she would attack them. Also i know she would somehow get loose and run off lol i do leave her in the car though.

My last pooch was aloud in a lot of the shops in the village i lived in, everyone knew my Sammy as a big softy, he would go home with anyone so there was no chance in hell he was left alone.

Re: leaving your dog tied up
wouldnt do it myself around here, to many dogs have gone missing even out of gardens. I dont even like leaving them in the car alone and try and park were I can see it from the shop. gue ss it depends on where you live as to how safe it is to do

I would never leave Dragon tied up anywhere, he would start crying if I did and you can never trust anyone within seconds someone can steal the dog, and knowing Dragon he would go with anyone....

Re: leaving your dog tied up
this is my first and last time of leaving spike tied up, he wasn't much of a fan of it. I was in eyesight the whole time as the picture showed, trying to pick up a parcel from royal mail, he kept crying until I came back. never again !!

I actually think Chloe and Lola would go off with ANYONE - they just love everybody - so I'd never leave them tied up outside a shop. They just love going into Pets at Home though

Re: leaving your dog tied up
The only time I tie Ledger up is collecting a takeaway, order in advance so with planning I only have to go in for a moment and the ones I use have huge windows and handy lamposts so I am in his sight at all times
P@H, post office, non food places etc he always comes in with me tbh if they don't have a sign (sometimes even if they do like Argos) I just take him in they can only say no

Re: leaving your dog tied up
That's a good point about no signs, I've only taken Daisy in pah and other pet shops, she loves it. Only time I've left her outside is at the delivery office and she's literally about 3 metres away from me and I prop the door open, I'd be too scared of someone taking her because she would go with anyone!!

Re: leaving your dog tied up
Yes, quite a few shops are ok with it, surprisingly.
On the subject of dogs being stolen - I started looking this up yesterday. Something like 50,000 go every year according to an article I read dated 2009. Obviously, they are all sorts of breeds - mainly pedigrees - but it made me feel sick. There are also a few stories about of dogs being stolen for fun or random violence. Having said that, you never hear many stories of people actually being arrested or tried in this country for these crimes. It seems that they are rarely caught.
I have read quite a few out of America.
In this case 80 dogs!

Re: leaving your dog tied up
i only leave Spike tied up outside the local off licence when i pop in for tabs etc, but the owner of the shop has a "eye-bolt" outside his shop so he can keep an eye on any dogs tied up there, which i think is a great idea.

I would never leave Lou tied up outside a shop, ever. But i did once take her in to Paws for Thought for a new harness, problem is, she does excited wees, and this guy came over and started fussing her, didnt she just pee all over the floor, i was mortified...They were ok about it, but i just kept apologising over and over, and bought more than i went in for. Never again! she stays at home now.

Re: leaving your dog tied up
There was that horrible story of the dog getting stolen outside a shop, an old boy, the lad that took him threw him of a bridge into a beck, for no apparent reason, the dog died of its injuries. There are too many sickos out there to risk it, all for 2 mins.

Re: leaving your dog tied up
Lots of people would do this where I used to live in Perth -seemed the norm. I had a dog at the time but never thought of doing this because our dog would chew through the lead and I didn't want her to get taken.
The problem in Australia is that it is pretty much standard that the only building your allowed to take your dog into is the Vet and maybe the pet store . I could not imagine taking a dog into the post office because it would not be acceptable . There are no signs required here because socially, it's just not done .
Our 9 week old bitch Stafford hasn't had her second vaccinations yet and so doesn't get out of the house much so I've been trying to make opportunities to get her out in the last couple weeks. So far, even though I have been holding her and with no intention to release her I have been told that I am not allowed to bring her into my daughters Kindergarten (pre-school) in order to just drop her off, the same with my son's Daycare when I went to pick him up and again at Bunnings. Just imagine if I've brought a full grown dog in
Makes it difficult to bring the dog with you at all times and really be with them.
