Collecting our Rescue Dog on Friday
We have reserved a Staffordshire bull terrier from RSPCA Waltham Abbey (Hillside Kennels) and collect him on Friday. He is an 18 month old brindle and called Tiger, his markings are what gave him his name. I have always loved Staffies and cannot wait to collect him and bring him home. This will be the first Staffy we have owned as always had Springer Spaniels in the past. Will be please of any advice anybody can give us, already contacted local dog training classes to get him booked in.

Re: Collecting our Rescue Dog on Friday
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
Well done for rescuing bet you cannot wait to get him home.
I would probably advize you to hold off on the training classes until he is settled in well with you. I made this mistake with Rocky when we first got him and it didn't work out well. Try to leave it a month or two until he feels more confident with you as a handler then try it then.

Welcome bet you can't wait. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask, we're more than happy to help if we can and of course, don't forget to take pics, we love to see pics.
Only advice I can think of is to be patient agree with all that Kathy said.

Welcome to the adoption club!
I would agree with waiting a little while for classes as well. Wait and see you Tiger settles in. I've only just started classes with Doug and we've had him 7 weeks. He's still settling in but he's doing really well, head of his class
Good luck for Friday it'll be the BEST day for you all

Re: Collecting our Rescue Dog on Friday
Thanks very much for your quick replies, the next set of classes start at the end of June, which sounds about right but we are still waiting to see if he has got any places left.
I cannot wait until Friday and Mark my husband cannot wait, as he misses having a dog to take for a walk as we lost our dog middle of April, he was a Springer crossed with a Collie, he was also a rescue dog who we had for over 12 years, he was 2 when we got him, so he had a long life but has left a big empty space in our lives.
Will post a picture when I find out how to do so.

Re: Collecting our Rescue Dog on Friday
Thanks, Friday cannot come quick enough for us to go and collect him. Our youngest granddaughter who is 16 is coming with us as she cannot wait for us to bring him home.
Hope he gets on OK with my daughters old dog who is a 15 year old Golden Retriever. As my daughter has always looked after our dog, should we go abroad for a holiday, but I know her dog will just ignore him, as she cannot be bothered to chase another dog round any more. We are going to take him on holiday to a caravan in Kent, September so it is great he loves to travel in the car.

Re: Collecting our Rescue Dog on Friday
A crate will give him a cosy and safe place to relax, it will also help when you go out as many dogs from rescues have some degree of seperation anxiety.

Re: Collecting our Rescue Dog on Friday
We have been told he is not a chewer or barker and can be left for 3/4 hours with no problem.
Would prefer not to crate him if possible, as never had to with any of our other dogs, as we like them to have the run of part of the house whilst we are out.
