Question on raw bones
My friend brought daisy 3 raw bones today, shes never had one before. I know your not supposed to mix raw and kibble, she's just had her tea will I be able to give her one later or does it need a longer gap? Also is it ok to freeze the other two and then just defrost when I want to give her one?
Sorry if I seem a bit dumb but never gone in for the raw stuff before and I don't want to upset daisy's stomach!
Thanks

Re: Question on raw bones
I'd personally give her the raw bone tomorrow for breakfast then the kibble will have gone through her system.
Yes freeze the other two, you can defrost and refreeze as many times as you want, or feed it frozen too

Re: Question on raw bones
hope she enjoys them, and do keep an eye that she doesn't try to eat it to quick if she's never had them before

Re: Question on raw bones
Will do, think I'll be better to wait and give it her for tea tomorrow so I can supervise her properly

Re: Question on raw bones
Well if you give it for tea, then just give her the bone and no kibble

The main thing when feeding your dog a bone is to make sure that you.............get the camera, take a pic and post on the forum

Re: Question on raw bones
I mean a pic of Daisy. Don't mean just take a random pic of something like a fence post and put that on the forum. Just thought I'd clear that up

Re: Question on raw bones
Well after Vins escapade with the raw bone the other day it will be a while before he has another! But I usually just give him it frozen. Do keep an eye though cause Vin was like a mad thing first time he had one

Re: Question on raw bones
OK well it didn't go exactly as planned!!
Gave her the bone for tea and she was not impressed, she licked it a bit then carried it around a bit but then started to get really distressed. Now I know that sounds extreame but it's the only way I can describe it, she was crying and shaking stood outside, I didn't want her to get in a state (and to make matters worse the mortgage advisor was coming around and would have probably thought I was abusing her!) so I took it off her and gave her normal tea.
I'd just dumped it on the side and later on she was jumping up trying to get at it, so after a bit (and I know I shouldn't have really) but I thought if I just put it down again she might get a bit more used to it and not so scared and then I can try again another day. I wasn't really worried about her eating any of it after the earlier experience. So I we tried again, she licked it again, danced around it, barked at it, carried it round a bit and then finally she started trying to eat it. I let her have a bit before I took it off her and she seemed to be getting into it, although she's not figured out that she can use her paws to hold it yet!! It's now in the fridge so will try it for breakfast.
Wow that was quite a saga, thanks for reading!!
Oh and as requested here's a couple of pics, licking it and then looking terrified

Re: Question on raw bones
Frankie does this. He eats it for a little while then carries it around while pacing round the living room and whining. He then stands at the bottom of the stairs wanting to take it on our bed! They are strange!

Re: Question on raw bones
Dempsey tends to take his bones to his crate. I wasn't keen to start with because of the risk of bacteria, but as his bedding is washed fairly frequently I just let him go!
When he gets a bone he starts by licking it all over, then he gets himself settled comfortably in his crate & chomps away!
