ear infection?
This morning skye is repeatedly shaking her head from side to side. I have tried to look at her ears. The left ones seems a bit crusty although she would not sit long enough for me to look. Is this an ear infection? Im assuming its irritating/painful as she wont let me close enough to look

Re: ear infection?
Yes shaking head definitely sounds like it's something in her ears, daisy suffers terrible after having untreated ear infections when I got her, I would go to the vets and get her checked out, let us know how you get on

Re: ear infection?
When Otis got an ear infection he was shaking his head terribly, it was no problem though the vet gave us some drops and they worked a treat. He also showed us how to massage the ears to help sooth the irritation when we put the drops in. Let us know how you get on

Re: ear infection?
Sounds like one! A vet trip is probably in order. They'll be able to check and give her ear drops/antibiotics.
Is there a bad smell coming from her ear? If so, that would definitely indicate an ear infection.

Re: ear infection?
Been to the vets and he confirmed an ear infection. I have drops to put in twice a day and he gave her an injection for the pain. I have to go back next week to get it cleaned out. He wasn't able to do this today as he said it would have been too much pain for her without sedation. She has always had more wax in her left ear so he thinks she may be prone to infections in that one. Although my purse wasn't pleased its good to know she will be fine in a few days.
When I think about it the last few days she has been quite snappy and this is probably because she was in pain, my poor pooch

Re: ear infection?
She seems lots better thanks. No more head shaking and her ear looks much better. She isnt a fan of getting her drops in so that's a task in itself x

Re: ear infection?
I always give Daisy a treat after putting her drops in, so at least she knows there is something good come afterwards, she's had a lot of ear and eye drops so it has helped! I'm sure the vet told you but don't forget to massage the back of hers ears after you put the drops in to make sure it goes right in, good luck, hope she's better soon

Re: ear infection?
Charlie has had a week and 5 days of having drops in....it was terrible getting them in at first, he knew when he heard the box rattle what was coming and would try and get away and OH had to hold him still, he'd panic and lick a lot and generally not like it. I even tried sneaking them in when he was sleeping! But, after the first week, I let him see what was coming, told him to stay and gave him a couple of lumps of cheese and really praised him up. He would then let me put them in and would sit at the kitchen doorway padding in anticipation of cheese! He's all better now.
How often should they be done? Do you just use warm water on cotton wool?jstaff wrote:How often to you clean them?

Re: ear infection?
Glad he's all better
I'm not sure how often you clean a normal dogs ears to be honest, Daisy needs her drops once a week, but hers are damaged from untreated infections when I got her.
