Still Shocked Empty Still Shocked

Post by ANGIEMARKYOUNG Mon May 13 2013, 10:14

Was out walking Jenson yesterday evening with my 2 girls aged 7 and 11 when i was propositioned by a group of " gypsy's" in a big van asking me if i wanted to sell Jenson to them.
I was gob smacked and disgusted ... i told them in no uncertain terms that there would be no chance i would sell him. Got me worried all night though and this morning its still playing on my mind. Cannot believe the nerve of them, keep looking at Jenson and get upset at all the other dogs out there that have/are not so lucky as our beautiful staffies in loving homes, try not to keep playing it over about why they wanted him!!!!
I made sure i warned all my friends to be on their guard.

Oh no what an awful experience, it's scary isn't it, I do worry about these things. I think you just have to be extra vigilant & make sure everywhere is secure & of course spread the word locally, >Big Grin< >Big Grin< for you all. Maybe you could make the local police aware.

I was very scared was worried as they saw me with 2 kids, wouldnt have much chance if they tried to grab him, so i rushed home ... be taking hubby with me for the next few days i think just to be on safe side.
I thought about ringing the police but didnt think they would do anything .. no harm in trying though. will defo be spreading the word ... ive heard about this but to experience it myself was not a nice experience.

I'm sure it's always a scary experience, especially since you don't know what their intentions are since they're strangers, after all, but try to put it behind you, and as you say, take your husband with you for the next few walks, help put your mind at ease Smile

i know the feeling there been a few times were people will drive past in vans and slow down and stare and ask questions (im 19st 6ft2 ex doorman)and it worrying and must be twice as hard for a woman and kids to enjoy a walk without having to look over there shoulders all the time

Its horrible .. cant believe the nerve of them. Its true what u say .. all i want to do is enjoy a walk and not worry .. there was other couples with other breeds of dogs which they didnt bother with so its pretty obvious why they targeted me and jenson.
Unfortunatly there isnt much we can do about it .. just be extra vigilant! shouldnt have to be that way though.

It's happened to me quite a few times now, with different groups of people asking if i would be interested in selling the boys to them.

Never nice.

No jensons just a pup, he would more than likely like the attention.

did you not think to get the registration numer of the van

No i just wanted out of there to be honest. i never even thought about it. I dont carry nowt with me anyway except treats and poo bags so no way of putting reg down and i wasnt hanging around to try and memorize it. If i see them again though i will try and get it.

Thanks everyone again for the kind words, luckily i didnt see them last ngt but we went a different route this time, be keeping my eyes open though.

God, I missed this. Horrid. Very common also...

I've had some total low-lifes asking about Logan as stud for some awful things because he is a strong dog.

I know it isn't a dead cert either, but it's best staying to very public open areas when you are alone if you can.

How very unnerving for you. Do you have a community officer who you could report this sort of thing to ??

Stick to walking in very busy places in daylight and let as many other dog walkers know that you can about it.

That's awful Sad It's pretty well known in Bristol, I worked with a lot of dogs that came from the gypsy camps when I lived there, and also had the gypsies coming into my kennels trying to steal dogs. It's not worth thinking about the kind of lives they had, just got to feel positive for the few lucky ones that find their way out! Good idea to have your husband out and about with you though, keep safe Smile

I agree with u about it being well known in bristol .... we have a lot of travellers/ gypsies around here .. they do the usual of calling u over or pulling up beside u and asking if u want anything usually stuff in the back of the van .. thats what i expected so i didnt get close when he called me over as was about to tell him im not interested when he asked if he could have jenson. good job i didnt get to close.

But i'll be taking all ur advice on board .. very public areas esp for the time being and plenty of warning people. thanks again.

Hope this post helps even if its just 1 staffy owner to be more on their guard as i heard about staffies being stolen etc but never really gave it much thought til now will defo be more aware from now on.
