Strange behaviour Empty Strange behaviour

Post by brutusindubai Thu May 09 2013, 18:41

I think Brutus may be going through his independent teenage years. Whilst he comes running up to me when it is dinner time or walk time, if I go up to him and try to give him a scratch or some attention he will move position and find somewhere new to lay. Does anyone's dog do this?

Some dogs like human contact more than others and love lots of fuss, maybe Brutas is one that doesn't appreciate all the fuss ?? Rocky loves his cuddles too and jumps up onto my knee every night at about 5pm for his cuddle o'clock

Loki doesn't do this because he's the clingiest dog ever, but they do tend to calm a bit and want more space and independence a bit when they get older, generally.

Give it two weeks - is my rule of thumb.

Maybe he is trying to call the shots?

Dempsey's the same. If he wants attention he'll stay still & lap it all up, but if he doesn't then he'll just move away & lay somewhere else! Big Grin

Agreed. Dempsey is exactly like that. Tongues Very sweet when he wants something, like dinner or a walk, but otherwise isn't really that bothered about stroking.

He's a bit funny. He goes to the missus for attention, but when I give him attention he gets a bit funny. He always comes to me for a walk or dinner, but just a little weird when I go to give him attention. Strange puppy

Yep, Logan does this a lot, when he is content he doesn't like people bothering him. He lets out a big sigh then normally leaves the room. I just let him have his space Smile

Deebo is the same. And the long sigh Mat's talking about is so familiar.

No, it's rarely anything to do with dominance/calling the shots. He just wants some space - that's perfectly understandable & as long as you respect that space there won't be a problem.

Obviously if he gets irritable because you have to touch him for whatever reason he'll have to be told about it, but just moving away because he doesn't want a fuss at that particular time is fine.

Shéara loves his cuddles and attention but sometimes he wants his own space and wants to be left alone.
