Argggghh irresponsible dog owners Empty Argggghh irresponsible dog owners

Post by LukeNJanine Sun May 05 2013, 11:28

Ok so I really do have to have a rant about this one, I'm fuming,

So me and Bruno are out on our morning walk when we go to a local field popular with dog walkers,

I've got Bruno on his tracking line and playing fetch with a tennis ball,

Out of nowhere come this great big red and white boxer, it came from some wooded area at the side straight towards Bruno and jumped on his back, there was no owners to be seen, Bruno was quite happy to play with him until the other dog grabbed his tennis ball then Bruno grabbed him by the throat and pulled him to the ground, while all this was happening I was tryin to pull Bruno away,

I'd restricted his lead to about a meter,

Eventually this couple emerged from the woods blowing this stupid whistle which the dog blatenly wasn't listening, then the dog ran off back into the woods with the owners chasing it,

So I packed mine and Brunos things up n set off home, we passed the couple with the dog finally on a lead and I said to them first is your dog ok and they were like yea why, coz my dog as just ad hold of your dog as he was bouncing all over Bruno and took his ball, they said he was only playing and I said we'll my dog is slightly dog aggressive depending on breed size etc,

You should have seen his face looking discusted at Bruno who was growling at this boxer so I said ey you was in the wrong not Bruno,

And walked off

Damn I'm mad and all the way home n now he's home he just looks sad like he's been shouted at so I just keep giving him cuddle

Always annoys me when I have my dogs on a lead and owners let their dogs run about near them without doing anything.

happens all the time unfortunately , people are very ignorant .
Yesterday out walking a woman comes along with a BC who walks straight up to Tommy (Tommy and Tilly both on short leads)
"Please call your dog"
"Is it a boy as he will be fine with her"
"Please call your dog , he is temperamental when approached"
"She only wants to say hello"
"He does not like being approached all of the time now please call your dog !!"

Head up in the air and walked off , not got as clue I dont want to s Sometimes I am just way too polite and should say if you cannot control, your dog and make her just run on then get the ******** thing on a lead you stupid cow

I hate it so much. I'm forever complaining about it tbh.

Logan is pretty good with most dogs but was never very good at being approached by an off lead dog. I think he dislikes the excited behaviour more than anything.

I tell everyone to put their dogs on lead and if need be make a total scene out of it so the next time they'll do it right away. It is basic dog etiquette to put your dog on lead when approaching another on lead dog.

I had a walk this morning which was great and we got plenty of socialisation, but just as I was leaving, two eejits walk in with FIVE dogs off lead. This is a childrens play area bare in mind.

The dogs were running about barking etc and generally causing annoyance. I made a point of telling them both that they are totally stupid and irresponsible for what they were doing.

However, again, it is important to avoid areas with off lead dogs normally are when possible and try not to get into the situation.

Oh no, poor Bruno - I'm sure you'll make it up to him.

I remember when Roxy was about 5 months or so taking her to a park for a walk and we kept her on leash as she was new to it all. A pack of 5 dogs come up and circled us - with the owner standing in the distance shouting "oh, they're all friendly."This as they are circling and growling. They then lunged for Roxy as we picked her up to walk out of the circle. And THEN the guy came up still saying "oh, they're friendly." That pack actually cleared the entire park in about ten minutes at wits end

I hate dog owners who have no control over their dogs.
I walk my three dogs off the lead almost all the time. They are well trained
and obey every command unless their is a bitch in heat around and then
I have no hope.

These owners always look at you as if you are the one at fault.
Just because your dog happens to be a Staffie.

Happens all the time, I think people don't realise not all dogs want to play or that some dogs don't like certain breeds and they think well my dog is friendly I can just let him off the lead and not give a f***.
I ask politely but sometimes when the other owner is ignorant I just feel like letting my boy go of the lead too, but the. I think about the poor dog and how it's not his fault that it has owners who clearly don't care.

I think if a dogs recall is not good it should not be of the lead, they can put it in a long line and train the recall, recall is very important so if your dog goes to say hello to a aggressive dog when the owner tells you, you can just call your dog.

Romeo is tempermental in a way that he likes some dogs and plays and loves them, but most he just wants to sniff and then go off and be left alone... there are a few where he has decided they must die, luckily it has never been followed through.
but some stupid people when i tell them he's not good to be approched by your dog... they normally say "oh mine is friendly" but hey... people... mine isnt!

I'm glad nothing like this has happened yet - it seems most people in Rushden are fairly responsible about dogs, but I dread to think of what might happen if one of these plonkers turns up and decides it's Tyson's fault. :/

Yea it's really frustrated me, it seems like we're I live has quite a few like this,

I'm just glad both Bruno and the other dog were ok,

It made it worse when I was talking to them how they were like what's the big deal,

It was really scary for me and Bruno but he seems ok now

Bruno is usually pretty good, he'll pull n scrabble to get to a dog but when there will just be like hey and sniff the other dog,

This is typical I'm afraid. I have this mostly everyday from one dog or another, Rocky is always on his lead and loose dogs come bowling over barking and growling at him yet it's Rocky fault if he should react, which he doesn't do hardly ever now thankfully, I have given up trying to work them out tbh.

We even have a sign up at the entrance of our local small park about keeping dogs on a lead or under close control, whatever that is. Rocky is always on the lead anyway so always under close control, you can't tell them though.

Good on you for approaching them and letting them know the error or there ways. it annoys me as you just know what crp they would come out with if there dog got hurt.
neither of my two are DA and marley will ignore most dogs but they are on lead because of cronic recal problems while out in the country. i let marleys flexi loose if an offlead dog is about to show he is approachable but real Laska in as she will do her typical playfull smack down anything that apporaches, it not the other dog im worried about hurting its laska getting hurt by being to trusting and playfull. its a hard line to tow when you have one dog that is full of pomp and feels he's too good while you have another which is goey and playfull yet keep them socialiezed with new dogs

Ah my number one frustration with dog walking, especially when I'm trying to make every encounter maxi has with another dog a good one but when a off lead dog comes rushing up to her it's impossible and she goes straight into defense mode

We had a similar experience today our usual entrance to the park was blocked as the DA dachschund cross from a few doors down was stood at the entrance to the park for his bi-daily 10 step walk to do his business so we went around to the side then walked in to be confronted by an old nemesis a staffy x (poss choc lab bread to look pit type) as usual owners were sat on the wall down the park and dog roaming off lead as soon as it saw us 'as usual' it ran straight up I shouted "Call your dog off" as it immediately circled round behind Ledger and tried to mount him cue one upset Ledger giving off all the 'back off' signs one loose dog who thankfully didn't react further to Ledger and one woman chasing her dog around the park with a lead in her hand.

Ledger then rooted himself to the floor shaking until the other dog was put on lead and the owners scuttled quickly out of the park.

Happened to me last night. A dog owner near me who has no control over their dogs decided it was a good idea to let them off their lead. Both dogs do not respond to basic commands and they both bolted. All I heard was laughter from the owner followed by "look at them go". Next thing I hear was a car screeching its tyres as both dogs ran on the road. I couldn't believe it and was utterly shocked by the laid back response and lack of care for the dogs.

This is after I got the "is that a pit bull" question. Argh!!

This is soo frustrating. Fair enough if you get caught out as you turn a corner and your both there but when the dog is miles ahead it is sooo frustrating. The whistle part didn't suprise me, so many people get things like this and think the training part is letting them run lose and if they use it enough one day the dog might listen and come back.
