Just got bitten this afternoon. I was waiting to buy a ticket from a meter in a car park and there was ( as it turned out ) an Eastern European couple with a large unusual looking dog. Being a dog lover I asked them what he was. The man said he was a Lab/Mastiff. At that the dog lunged forward, no growl, no bark, no warning and grabbed me by my index finger. I didn't recoil when he came at me as I thought he just wanted attention.

Long story short, I now have a very sore, badly bruised finger with a couple of puncture marks, but feel I got off lightly. I got no apology or explanation from the couple. I probably should have reported the incident to the police as it could be a kiddy next time, but to be honest I was in total shock.

I have been around, and owned dogs, all my life and even used to assist the trainer at our local training classes. I am 65 and the last time I was bitten was when I was attacked by a scottie when I was 14.

Sorry to rant on but this is the kind of owner who gets a breed and dogs in general a bad rep.

P.S.
I get my staffie puppy 3 weeks tomorrow......not that I'm counting lol. Big Grin

You'll have to be careful in the future. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was your fault in any way, they should've warned you (unless it was out of character, but they still should've apologised), but you can never be sure what the dog's like or how it'll react to people, unfortunately. I'm glad it wasn't worse though.

Oh, and congrats on you getting your puppy soon Big Grin picked out a name yet, or waiting until it's home with you?

Brilliant name for the pup btw. Your finger must be painful. What was the owners' reaction when you got bitten.

I suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth. Some people will always be sh1t owners.

P.S. I'm sure you're not, in the least, counting down the days to the new arrival......... Wink

I'm a he Laughing but still knew to clean it up without my wife telling me lol.

I didn't actually approach the dog, I would never do that without the handlers consent and even then i would allow the dog to approach me and offer the back of my hand for him to sniff. He just lunged as I was talking to the owner and luckily only just managed to reach me and no more at the end of his lead. He was a big fella ( the dog ) and it could have been much worse. I just worry for the dog's future welfare if he's allowed to do this to someone again.
