swelling between the toes?
i'm taking Lola to the vets this weekend anyway for a general checkover, so will mention this, but i noticed yesterday she seems to have a swelling between her outside toe and next one in, it doesnt seem inflamed, and shes not in any discomfort with it, and i cant see anything stuck in. she will let me look at it, but isnt too happy about it. any ideas?

Re: swelling between the toes?
Logan had this a couple of weeks back, was an allergic reaction and went down after some cream was applied for a few days. Has Lola been licking/chewing at her paws?

Re: swelling between the toes?
no more than i would say out of the ordinary mat, she's a pretty clean dog and spends a little bit of time licking grass stains off her paws every day. and i will janey, just worried she's started to fall to pieces!

Re: swelling between the toes?
I had noticed Logan was doing it a bit more than normal the when I checked his toes where red and one was swollen. Again, not bothering him in the slightest.
It was easily cleared up though.

Re: swelling between the toes?
It could be a scratch, a cyst, an allergy or even something that's worked its way under the skin.
I'd mention it to the vet when you go.

i'm going to make this priority now i think, her appetite has settled down and she's breathing a LOT better this week, i just want to know she's going to be okay for next weekend as she's going into kennels again for a couple of nights

Re: swelling between the toes?
Hi Asa, as said above - the vet is the best place to check.
But, and here I go on one of my boring anecdotes again I had a dog some years ago that got lumps between her toes, no problem to her except the occasional chewing at them. Showed them to the vet, he said if it was my dog I'd get rid of them. So I did - GA, stitches, the lot. My next dog got the same, but this time I had heard of benign cysts so I waited .... and they disappeared! Took a few months, but they went.
See your vet all the same but try not to worry ><

Re: swelling between the toes?
vet has said its a cyst of some sort, and looking at the bottom of her foot it looks like there might be something in there, so i'm dropping her off tomorrow to go under the knife
hopefully its nothing more than a thorn, but i'm getting the big sad puppy eyes as she's not allowed to eat anything

Poor girl. She'll be fine though mate. Hope it gets sorted ASAP for you!

Re: swelling between the toes?
Ah poor Lola, but if the swelling has gone to the bottom of the foot and the vet thinks there may be a foreign body in there, then you're doing the best thing Asa.
Do let us know how it goes, and >< to Lola.

Hope she is okay. We had something similar to this happen with our old dog as well. The incision is small and they heal pretty quickly ><

Re: swelling between the toes?
well they removed "swollen tissue" but found no foreign body. i opted not to have it tested as money is a bit too tight at the minute, but if any more show up i'll bite the bullet. she's now got her whole lower leg bandaged, and its driving her nuts (through walking about she's managed to pretty much get it off once, ive redressed it with fresh dressings and bandages on the vets phone advice ) but otherwise she seems happy enough, and was bouncing off the walls when i picked her up. spent all afternoon at my aunts (lives across the road from our vets) and she was happy enough to play and share toys/treats/food/bed with her lab
oh, and she looks great in the lampshade

Re: swelling between the toes?
Sorry, didn't see this sooner. Glad she's had it sorted out and is doing OK that's a bit of an early start though! Tell her to get some rest

Re: swelling between the toes?
Oh crikey those lampshades! They do get used to wearing them although it takes a couple of days. I'm glad to hear that Lola is being a big strong brave girl about it all, eating and drinking (presumably) so soon after the op - that will all help a lot in her recovery.
Big >< to Lola from Kuchar.

Re: swelling between the toes?
yeah she's had a quiet day, ive let her wander round the allotment and field but no running, she seems comfortable enough, but occasionally lifts it, or moves it from under her if she's lay on it. havent had to use the lampshade today, she's happy to have the bandages on, just occasionally licks where the tape is on her fur.
she's an absolute star, i had to sort out a stocking for the bandages so she wont wear thru them, and she happily sat for a good ten minutes and let me faff around with her poorly foot. she's now making a small nest for herself with all her blankets, but i know in five minutes she'll be on my bed

Re: swelling between the toes?
quick update, back at the vets this morning to have the dressing removed, he's happy its healing nicely but the stitches are staying in for a few more days. i've had a look and i'm amazed just how far they went, the lump appeared between the outer two toes, right up by the paw, but they have had to cut almost to the end of the inner toe to remove whatever it was they took out.
all i have to do is keep it clean, and keep her walks down until the stiches are out now.
thanks for all the well wishes as well xx

Re: swelling between the toes?
Thanks for the update Asa - it must have been a shock for you to see how much they removed. How lucky you are that Lola is being such a good brave girl about it. Only a few days more and as Mat says you can then forget all about it. ><
