Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Over the road from my house there is a fenced off field, kids do play football on there, but we also take Louby, when its empty, and i always pick up after her (when she does anything, but she prefers the garden), plus if i see others poo i pick that up too (dont want anyone spoiling it for us), so we bought Lou a Boomer Ball, had a great few days of her playing with it, and she loves it, and they have only blooming padlocked the gate so we cant get on!!
How tight is that? If there is no mess on there, what difference does it make? Personally i think dogs should go on and kids not (i dont have kids, prefer 4 legs to 2)...although im sure a few parents would say otherwise.
We cant have her off lead anywhere open, dont trust her, although when she is playing with her ball she aint interested in anything else.
Im so disappointed.
Rant over x

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Ah that is annoying. I hate that they spoil the fun for everyone. If the kids step in poo then they are not looking where they are stepping lol

Aww that sucks You'll have to do a bit of exploring to find another field!

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
It is literally over a minor road. That close that kids hit our car with their footballs. Fingers crossed that someone breaks the lock. Can't climb over as its a high fence x

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Cut the lock, easy . Nah, that's a shame though. Have you got a long line for her? Obviously letting her off in a secure place is preferred, but for the times when you can't, she gets to run around but she's attached to you so she can't run off. Best of both world.

I have an extending lead? Will that work?

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Tennis courts at schools are always a good place for a bit of off lead time I find.
Obviously complaints have came in, most likely due to people (not you) not cleaning up after their dogs and ruining for everyone.

Sorry but I couldn't advize you to go breaking any laws about trespassing, sound like a bunch of kill joys. Do you know who owns the field or could you get permission to go on there ?

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
It's owned by the club next door. I suppose if we are seen to be on thee then other dog walkers will want to go on. Even though its not used much by dog walkers. As I say there is no poop on there. If I see any which is very rare then I pick it up xx

Good idea of Kathy's to see if you contact the owner of the field. Fields are valuable bits of land and are not usually left standing idle for no reason. It could be for instance that the owner wants to grow a hay crop on it, or put livestock of some sort on it, in which case it is understandable that he/she doesn't dogs or children on it. Best to find out, if you can.
Good luck with finding somewhere else if it doesn't work out, but at least you'd know the reason why.
Damn - I've just seen that it's owned by a club, so I suppose it's a kids club or football club or something, in which case it may well be the dog-mess issue (I know that doesn't apply to you). It just might be worth approaching them and see if they would make an exception for you, if you showed them your poo-bags and crossed your heart that you ALWAYS pick up after your dog. I know it's a slim hope, but might be worth a try.

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Oh no that's a bummer! Isn't there any fields you could take her too? Somewhere where you know isn't too busy and you can just let her off with her ball? Before I found a good field for Ebony I used to keep her on lead and see how many dogs go on the fields, where they usually walk ect now I can keep my eyes on where people and dogs come from and keep away from the busiest fields

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Yes I will need to find somewhere else. It was just ideal to go over the road, close the gate and chill while she played!!!
I do think that if we are somewhere and she has her ball, I don't think she would bother with anyone, she is so engrossed in trying to get that damn ball in her mouth! X

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
Haha, they think they can defeat us!! We went down to the park (which is all open) and used her extending lead. She was perfectly happy playing with her boomer ball.
Only thing is when she 'megs' me, the cord of the lead doesn't half hurt xx

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
The extendable lead is good, but with long lines you can get them much longer. I attach mine to a belt with a shock-absorbing lead so it doesn't hurt when he reaches the end of it. It's brilliant because he can do what he wants and I'm not on constant alert for dogs or people

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
If we have his boomer or chuck it balls then Ledger pays absolutely no attention to other dogs/people in the park. I had mostly kept in the small park behind me with the chuck its (there is too much poo around for the boomer) but more recently we head up to the busier football pitches no poo and more dogs but he hasn't shown any interest, there is also an enclosed 5-a-side/basketball court there which I have previously used for obedience training

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
A long line lead does sound better - although thats more money to spend. I have spent so much on her lately, but i keep telling my husband that its just start up costs, and hopefully once have the right leads, collars/harnesses, toys food etc, things should start to calm down.
To be honest this morning when we were on the park a dog and owner walked past us while she was playing and they were invisible to her, she paid no attention whatsoever to them. But i still dont trust her. I shall maybe give it more time..
Thanks x

Okay so you cant climb over the high fence, how about finding a hole in the hedge?
At least you have found somewhere, but yes I agree its a shame.

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
The fence goes the whole way round - it was great knowing nothing could sneak in, but now we cant sneak in...cant have it all ways i suppose.
It really was the kind of place that all dog owners dream of, especially 'problem pooches'...
Yes we should be ok with her extending lead / long line...thanks x

Re: Booo, they have padlocked the gate
You can contact the local council and find out who owns it, if it’s the councils ask why it has been closed off ... private land is a bit more difficult, but in all fairness the council told me who owns the land around my cottage, I contacted them directly to find out if my too dogs where allow to run the fields lol
