Post by Maureen3663 Fri Apr 05 2013, 22:54

Hi everyone I'm maureen Smile

I have taz, he is an 8yr old beautiful brindle boy.
I will try and upload some photos soon.

I have joined the forum to get some advice and info from all you lovely people!!
My boy has been unwell recently, he has bouts of sickness and diarrhoea on and off for the last 2 months!!
We have been to the vet, he has had 4 courses of tablets, injections, pastes, potions and steroids as well as a prescription diet. He isn't in any pain and doesn't look in any discomfort.
Vet is keen for him to have investigative procedure, as they are unsure what it is. I'm reluctant to have him go through this at the moment.
Can anyone offer any advice please. Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum from me and the Monster Big Grin

It sounds like you are having a hard time, it might come to having to go ahead with the procedure. Possibly though you could go get the opinion of another vet, I have found in the past that you can get totally different opinions when asking another vet.

Hi and welcome from us and Suki. If the problem has been ongoing over a couple of months and the vet can't make a diagnosis w/o a test I think I would seek a second opinion. This isn't to say your vet is wrong by any means but I would want two vets to concur before proceeding for peace of mind. Of course if you are very familiar and confident with your vet than I would listen to his advice.

Thanks I might try another vet, he's been through lots in the last 8 weeks, think a procedure might just traumatise him at the moment Crying or Very sad

Hello, welcome to the forum!

I take it you haven't changed his food, or maybe the manufacturer might have changed the recipe of his usual food?

Do you know exactly what the vet has tested him for?

Hi and welcome from me and Ebony! Sorry to hear about your boy Sad as others a said, try another vets! You put that he's been through alot in the last 8 weeks could that have something to do with it? If he's picked up something out on walks? They sometimes give certain tablets to flush out whatever he's picked up so that may be why he's still sick as it's a sort of laxative to some extent? I'm not sure though! If you've changed anything drastic in your house or different food/treats it might be that too as some dogs don't too well with change and it can lead to that due to stress! You could also see if his anal glands are full, as I've heard stories of it making people dogs very sick but I doubt that's a problem really; worth a try! Big Grin Make sure you ALWAYS have fresh water available for him at all times as having the sickness can leave them very dehydrated and feed plain food for a while maybe? Pasta and chicken in a few small portions throughout the day could help keep his food down a bit better! Do keep us updated though, I'm exited to see some pictures Big Grin good luck! Big Grin
