Either an accident or because they have dogs of each breed and then decide to do it for the money.

I do see a few over here. Normally either happens by accident or someone has both breeds at home. They are both very popular.

I've seen a few. Not sure why people do it but perhaps it's because they tend to take on a "less staffy looking face"? Personally I love the staffy head and face and well everything about them BUT there are people out there that think they look "like a nasty pit bull" so maybe breeding to a JRT it softens the face a little?
Or I might be talking out me jacksee

I love the staff face too Vikki!
Just seems like 2 pretty random dogs to breed to me?

Re: Staff x JRT
Yeah it is but then for me so is a pug and a beagle?
I think there are too many people out there wanting to "create" fashion dogs to make the money.
Personally I don't think it's fair that people are allowed to breed dogs for money where there are thousands in shelters looking for homes. I'll never buy a puppy from anywhere I'll always rehome.
That being said I hold no grudge on people that do buy from breeders as it's their personal choice

If it's done on purpose, it's a case of "I have a Jack Russell and I also have a Staff, hey, I'll breed them and make some money!" it's not like they've thought it all out properly. Lots of dogs bred together are random I suppose. The more I think about Loki's mix, the more I think they're two ridiculously incompatible breeds and I'm lucky he has the temperament of a Staff. That's what irresponsible people/greedy people do though.

Re: Staff x JRT
There is one in a rescue centre close to me which I have been very tempted by on numerous occasions but I'm just not at the stage yet. Plus I'll wanna take time off work when I eventually do. I really like them as I'm sure a few of you have worked out
The thing about them is because the JRT is a very hardy wee dog it can stand being outside in kennels etc, where the Stafford typically can't. But then has the strength of a Staff. I know a few guys use them for hunting etc and ratting for the fact that they are very compact.
My friend's Dad owned both breeds and it was a total accident, but all pups ended up with family or close friends. Very few people will do it on purpose.

Can't agree with you there, Mat!
Many people do it on purpose & then sell the pups as 'designer dogs' and charge stupid money for a "Jackshire Bull Terrier" or a "Staffordshire Russell Terrier".
It's the latest money spinner - designer dogs.

My Molly is a Staffyjack, as I call her. She was a rescue and I was told that is what she is, she seems bigger then your average staffy but she does have the look of both breeds, she gorgeous anyway..

Re: Staff x JRT
She is great with people but not very good with other dogs, she was more excepting when she was younger, but as she has grown she is less tolerant, but she doesn't get the opportunity to socialise so I blame us, I'd love her to have more friends and I'm sure it will come given the opportunity to mingle she will get better. Other than that she is perfect. Very loving, and soppy.

Sounds a lot like Alfie. He is a lot younger than Molly though and he loves other dogs. He's had a pretty bad start in life but he is the most loving dog

Re: Staff x JRT
i've seen quite a few JRT x SBTs i also think it's a weird mix, and why anyone would wanted to get rid of that gorgeous big staffie head is beyond me! they are by far some of the happiest looking dogs because of their big heads!
But there is a wee dog up the road from me that is even weirder than a SBT/JRT......a rottie jack russel cross!!! He is awsum, such a cute wee dog he looks like someone has chopped the legs of a rottie! ur lucky if hes a foot tall. God knows if it was a deliberate cross, and am not sure which one was the mummy and which was the daddy but the end result was cute.

I've always thought Daisy might have some JRT in her, she's quite slight build and when you watch her from the back she kind of skips and it looks jack russell ish??!!

It's hard to know with recues when you don't know their background! A lady once asked me if she had some beagle in her and a man who said he used to bread red staffs said he thought she was full staff!!

I totally fell in love with him Dave and wanted him more than anything but he was kept.
They had been with both parents for 9-10 weeks already at that point and were the most well mannered pups I'd ever seen!
I was also smart enough to keep my goofy face out of the photo

I have never heard of a staffy x jrt but then again I had never heard of a staffy x westie which is what my Otis is so I guess it's not uncommon to have accidental litters...surely these people don't breed them on purpose. I know Otis and his brothers and sisters were an accident. I call Otis my "waffie" lol x
