Dry Skin/ Dandruff
Ok, so since this bitter cold weather has came Logan has started to get quite dry skin which on his black coat stands out really badly. It doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. He isn't scratching or anything.
It's really stressing me though because it is really apparent because of his colour.
When I brush him it comes away but is immediately replaced with more. It seems to comes away if I rub him down with a towel but then comes back soon enough after.
I have even rubbed a bit of olive oil into his skin and it helped for a few hours but then was just as bad.
I've got him a wee coat today to help. But I just wanted to know do any of you have any tips of what else I could maybe try?
Thanks

Re: Dry Skin/ Dandruff
I have noticed that Holly gets this when she comes back from a walk. I presumed it was stress but maybe it is the wind ( although she has a coat on?)
I know our Taz used to get this from time to time whenever he had been on a certain brand of food for a long time...i would change him and it would improve...then several months later return.
I am interested in any answers

Re: Dry Skin/ Dandruff
I def think it's the cold in this case because even my hands are as dry as a bone and all split.
I see there are moisturing sprays/shampoos online etc but I've never used them and just wondered had anyone else.

I have heard that coconut oil is good, you can give them a bit of that for their coat. You can give him a spoonful of it, the girls like it. It made their coats softer, I just haven't got around to buying some more

Re: Dry Skin/ Dandruff
I know a few of our members suggest honey or olive oil, or even ACV. Perhaps some omega supplements?
I know this won't help much, but Roxy's dry skin from her weekly dips for demdetics used to drive me mad. We found an oil mix of rooibos, grapeseed and I think chamomile that you could add to the food and it has done her coat wonders.

Hi mate,
Zeus used to have pretty bad dandruff aswell, he still does now and again but I give him a number of things to combat this:
1) Apple Cider Vinegar
Not the supermarket kind, I get it from Amazon, Braggs unfiltered organic. Sometimes I give it in his food, sometimes I just add some to his water.
2) Active Manuka Honey UMF10
I get this from Amazon too - the make is Comvita - meant to be really good for humans and dogs (great antibacterial properties and boost the immune system). I'll either put this in his stagbar or let him lick some off my hands.
3) Olive oil/Fish oil
As his food already has omega 3 in it, I mix it up daily whether to put olive oil or fish oil in his food.
4) Raw egg
I also give him raw egg with shell about twice a week which is good for his skin/fur.
5) Tuna
I give him tuna 2/3 times a week too, either in sunflower oil or water, he loves the stuff!

Yes oily fish is good, also aloe vera gel (I use this forever stuff which is a great all rounder although its imported from America and you would need a representative!)

My 2 are fed 1 tablespoon of coconut oil per day.
You need to buy virgin coconut oil. The one I buy is solid oil, smells divine ! And the pooches adore it, u can rub it onto dry bits too.

Re: Dry Skin/ Dandruff
Do either of you have a brand in particular of it?
Also Ella, I met an AmBull on my walk today that was totally identical to your Chance

Re: Dry Skin/ Dandruff
Rocky seems to be suffering with this too, we put it down to a combination of the cold weather and the central heating being on a bit longer. We have tried a little olive oil in his dinner which seemed to help, the coconut looks great too.

Mine is very similar to Ellas pic.
£6.99 a jar in tesco.
Only last about 10days (with 2 pooches) worth it tho

When you rub it in do you heat the tub up first in some hot water like you would for us or just rub it in?

All I did was soften it in my hands then apply it to dry areas, used some on Tanks tail as he had a dry patch, don't need much as a little goes a long way.
The only prob I had was Diesel following him around trying to lick it off !
