Raw Feeding
Raw Feeders,
I'm at a bit of a loss and need some advice. We have been feeding brutus a raw diet for a few months now and it's working wonders. But I'm worried he is getting too much chicken. For instance, his breakfast is usually a chicken breast followed by dinner being half a chicken breast, heart and kidney/liver. I have managed to buy some tubes of minced beef which we also give him on alternative days with chicken or kidney.
In terms of bone, he gets the odd chicken thigh/leg or a lamb leg with meat on. We also give a pigs ear or trotter on occasion if we put him outside before heading out.
I managed to get him some lamb and beef offcuts from our butcher a few weeks ago and he loved it. How much chicken compared to red meats should you give?

Re: Raw Feeding
I'm not sure, but some other members will most likely be able to advise you later in the day. It's still early, so I daresay you'll have some answers by the end of the day.

Re: Raw Feeding
Red meat is alot lot better to give a dog then chicken.
Have you tried adding other proteins in now you have been on raw a while?
Normally every week or 2 you would add in a new food to add variety
I try and feed as little chicken as possible and give a diet rich in red meats such as pork, lamb, beef, venison etc

Duck is good for dogs with sensitive skin apparently - if u can get it.
I buy the complete raw meals from natures menu which is their main diet but the do get bones and other bits thru the week.

Re: Raw Feeding
I've added in different meats but will try and reduce the amount of chicken. Bought more quail today and I think I may have onus a butcher who will give me offcuts. Managed to get 3kgs today. Does it matter how much fat he gets as part if the off cuts? I tried to take out most of it, but he till got a bit.

Re: Raw Feeding
I always left fat in unless there was a lot of it. A certain amount of fat is essential in any diet.

Re: Raw Feeding
Hi Brutusindubai,
We feed our pack an entirely raw diet and they are all very fit and healthy, with very shiny coats. Our diet would be 85% chicken based with the remaining 15% varying between ox tails, lamb shanks and beef brisket. I also supplement with chicken broth, which I believe gives the beautiful gleam to their coats.
